How We Teach
The Kodaly philosophy of music education is based on the work of composer and educator Zoltan Kodaly. He believed that everyone is born with musical ability, and should be allowed to grow and develop that from an early age. Kodaly follows a step-by-step sequence that follows the way a child learns naturally. Kodaly educators focus on presenting lessons that focus on physical, aural, and visual learning styles, while teaching students to read music.
The Kodaly philosophy uses singing as the first instrument, and then adds other instruments in a sequence. Authentic folksongs are the basis for the curriculum and are drawn from American folksong repertoire. We also use songs from around the world to add diversity to our curriculum.
