First Day of School Kindergarten through 5th Grade

The first day of school for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade will be on Thursday, August 11th!

School begins at 7:50 AM and students may be dropped off at school no earlier than 7:30 AM. School ends at 3:30 PM.

Drop Off Procedures

Morning drop off and afternoon pick up times can be busy at Padilla. We are constantly evaluating our procedures to best support student safety and efficiency for parents and guardians getting kids to and from school. As such, these drop off procedures will be used for the time being, but may be revised as we examine the process into the school year.

During morning drop off, families should use the front parking lot only to drop off students. Students may be dropped off in the drop off lane only. Students should be prepared to get out of the passenger side of the vehicle and exit onto the sidewalk without assistance.

For students requiring assistance exiting vehicles, or for families who wish to walk their child up to the building, please park your vehicle in the parking lot or off school property and walk your child (using the crosswalks, please!) to the building.

Please see the map below with more information about drop off in the parking lot. You can click on it to make it bigger.

Before School

Students will meet their teachers in front of the school. 1st Grade through 5th Grade students will meet in the areas in front of the main entrance and two-story portion of the building. Kindergarten families will meet their teachers near the fenced-in, preschool playground at the far end of the front parking lot.

For the first several days of school, teachers will have signs with them to help students and families identify where they will be during arrival. At 7:45 AM, students will walk with their teachers to their classrooms.

Please see the map below with the areas where teachers will be by grade level!

Students wishing to eat breakfast may enter the building at 7:30 AM and head directly to the cafeteria.

Families will not be able to enter the building with their students in the morning. This allows for students to transition more effectively to school.

Pick Up Procedures

Dismissal for students in Kindergarten, 4th Grade, and 5th Grade will begin at 3:25 PM.

Kindergarten students will exit from the same location they began their day, at the fenced-in, preschool playground at the West end of the parking lot.

4th Grade and 5th Grade students will exit the building from the doors at the East end of the two-story portion of the building.

Dismissal for students in 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, and 3rd Grade will begin at 3:30 PM.

1st Grade and 2nd Grade students will exit the building through the main front doors.

3rd Grade students will exit the building from the doors at the East end of the two-story portion of the building.

The pick up lane is a great option for students who are able to identify the vehicle that is picking them up. However, if your child will have trouble picking your car out of the lineup, we strongly encourage you to park your vehicle and walk to the front of the school to pick them up. The pick up lane is a fire lane and therefore vehicles cannot be left parked there, even for short periods of time. If your vehicle is in the pick up lane, there must be a driver in the driver's seat at all times.

If you do walk to the front of the school to pick up your child, please help us to model for students our CHILL Key of Living Intentionally by using the crosswalks to cross in the parking lots or to cross the streets around the school.

First Day of Preschool

The first day of school for all students in preschool will be Wednesday August 24th! Your child's teacher will reach out to you with more specifics about that when we get closer to that date, including schedules and class lists!

School Meals and Free/Reduced Meal Applications

Last year all students were able to eat breakfast and lunch for free thanks to a waiver from the USDA waivers. Unfortunately those waivers are expiring. But many students are still eligible for free or reduced cost meals! Applications for free/reduced meals can be found here! Even if you've previously applied, new applications are required each year, so please make sure to fill out an application!
