Austin Figure Skating Club
Newsletter - December 2020
President's Note
Dear Austin FSC Members,
It is hard to believe how fast time has gone by: we are a few weeks away from celebrating the Holidays! A great gift for any skater and skating parent is a super cool Puffer Vest with the AFSC logo. Grab yours while supplies last. Please contact Cindy Chapa for more details. This is also a great way to support our club!
We are happy to announce we will host a Test Session on January 24th. Please, see below for details. The safety of the skaters, judges and volunteers is always our top priority, so we will make a final decision closer to the event date considering the situation with COVID-19 within Travis County.
Unfortunately, the in-person Christmas party had to be canceled, but we will host a Hot Chocolate/S’more Virtual Holiday Kahoot and Dance Party on Saturday December 19, 2020 7pm-9pm. More details to follow on how to virtually join us for this event.
With the recent cancelled activities, we are aware the need to be inventive to support our skaters in their journey. For that reason, we are planning a Virtual Competition where skaters can choose from spins, jumps, etc. to show their hard work. More details and date TBD.
We are proud to announce the 2021 Skate Austin-Bluebonnet Open will be April 23-25. We will need helpful and cheerful volunteers. Please support the club for this event, while earning needed volunteer hours.
The next Board Meeting will be on Sunday, December 20th 2pm. Register in advance for this meeting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
Have a Wonderful Holiday season,
Cindy Chapa

Jr. Committee Hosts "The Great Halloween Skate Party Food Drive!"
The Austin FSC Junior Committee hosted an afternoon Halloween Skate Party at Northcross on October 31st. The party featured games in all four corners of the ice:
- Spider in the Web (tossing a puck to land on a bug in a web drawn on the ice)
- Down the Dark Well (bean bag toss)
- Slippery Pumpkin Bowling (ball tossed at cones)
- Ghouls Creepy Ring Toss (Ringet Rings thrown onto cones)
300 pounds of food was donated to the food drive for Central Texas Food Bank! Skaters donating five or more pounds of food received free skating admission for their next visit to the rink.
The highlight of the afternoon was a costume contest with lots of terrific costumes! Attendance for this event was 99 skaters!!!! Last but not least, the photo booth in the alcove was a big hit. The photo booth was decked out in a scary theme featuring Stephanie Schmid’s prop motorcycle from her Bad to the Bone showcase number.
This day was definitely good times and full of memories!!!!
See below for a photo of the costume contest winners. Thank you to everyone who participated.
