A Note From Dr. Kampfe

The Last Day of School

Plans are underway for our students to have a wonderful celebration of the year on our last day of school. The tradition at West has been for 9th grade students to go to ValleyFair, but that has not been possible for the last two years because of the pandemic. We are excited to report that we have been able to secure busses to take our 9th grade students to ValleyFair on June 3. Permission slips and additional details will be coming regarding this field trip next week.

Our 7th and 8th grade students will have a variety of fun activities planned here at the site on June 3 that will allow them to be in community with each other and their teachers, reflect on the year, have fun, and say goodbye to 2021-2022. As we are planning our day, if you are available to support as a volunteer, please reach out to Mario Reese at mario.reese@hopkinsschools.org or call 952-567-8930.

Our final two weeks will be a whirlwind of wrapping up courses with summative projects, finishing assignments, and turning in iPads. This school year has been one of tremendous challenge and tremendous growth. Thank you for your ongoing support as we rode the waves of highs and lows. We are looking forward to our final two weeks with hope as we think about the summer ahead.

COVID-19 Updates

Hopkins Public Schools COVID-19 Dashboard remains live on our website. Please remember to have your child complete a daily health screening every day before attending school. It is very important that you keep your child home if they are experiencing any signs of illness.

Please note, our isolation and quarantine protocols have changed. We have shortened our isolation requirements to a five-day protocol for students who meet the requirements. You can review the changes here.

Masks now strongly recommended, not required

All of the district’s key indicators support relaxing the masking policy. Case rates among staff and students are extremely low, Hennepin County’s transmission rate is currently at a low level, and there is a strong vaccination rate among staff and students. More information

While supplies last, we will continue our weekly saliva testing program for scholars and staff. Owing to an Omicron subvariant and spring travel, we’re seeing an increase in cases. We have plenty of rapid test kits for our scholars’ and families’ use. If you want a test kit, even for peace of mind, please see your school nurse or main office and ask for one.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

Hennepin County offers free clinic options for first, second, or booster vaccinations. You can register for an appointment online or by calling their navigation line at 612-348-8900. Help is available in English, Spanish, Somali, and Hmong. Check back often as events continue to be added. While supplies last, the county is offering $50 Visa gift cards to all people who receive a vaccination.

The Mall of America and MDH still have a vaccination clinic going at the mall. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please click here.
