BP Oil Spill

The BP Oil Spill began on April 20, 2010. A leak had happened in one of the oil pipes and leaked oil for 87 days before it was sealed. The spill occurred on the gulf of mexico. There was a total discharge of about 4.9 million barrels of oil.


  • !6,000 miles of coastline has been affected by the oil.
  • They believe it killed 11 people.
  • 8,000 animals reported dead 6 months after the incident.
  • BP is responsible for 40 million in cost of fines, clean ups and settlements.
  • In Louisiana alone 4.6 million pounds of oily material was removed in 2013.

How this effects us today

This event hurts us by destroying local ecosystems and contaminating our water's. Many animals have died from this event.
