Third Grade in the News!
November 17th - 21st
What We Are Learning This Week
Thanksgiving Feast
Please note our lunch time for the feast is 11:45-12:15!!
Math with Mrs. Moore: Next week we will primarily review what we have learned in multiplication so far. Students should be familiar with the Commutative Property and the Distributive Property of multiplication. For extra practice ask your learner to spend some time on the tasks I have recommended for them on Khan Academy.
Science with Mrs. Naragon: We will continue our unit on Weather! PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD TO TRACK THE WEATHER ON THEIR WEATHER CALENDAR OVER THE WEEKEND! The data calendar must include the weather symbol, temperature, precipitation and wind, this is due on Monday! We will also be completing a choice board this week using the weather data and the information we have learned.
Social Studies with Mrs. Naragon: We will continue our unit on historical figures who have shaped our communities. This week, we will learn about Pierre Charles L'Enfant, Benjamin Banneker, and Lewis and Clark.
Language Arts with Mrs. Trueblood: This week we will be reading myths and legends and discussing the characteristics of each. We will be concluding our personal narratives by writing our final drafts. We will continue to read our Book Club books and reflecting through Kidblogs. Please have your child read each night.
The holiday season is quickly approaching and we are looking forward to celebrating with family and friends. Austin Elementary will be joining the Physical Education Department, all ten elementary schools, the middle schools, and all high schools to sponsor a "Turkey Drive" for the North Texas Food Bank. The food bank provides staple food items and meals for those families in our community who have a financial need. During the holiday season, thousands of turkeys are needed to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
We would like to ask our Austin Families to donate "one frozen turkey" to the North Texas Food Bank. One turkey will count for all of the children in your family. We are so proud of the way our Austin family has supported this effort in the past years. Times are still rough for some of our families. More importantly, we want our Austin Mustangs to develop a spirit of community service and helping others.
Turkeys will be collected on Friday, November 21st from 7:15am - 8:30am. We will only be able to collect frozen turkeys on Friday, November 21st at this time and they can be dropped off in either parent loop. We will have helpers assisting with the turkeys.
