### December 11, 2015

Mr. Smarty Pants came to school Wednesday afternoon and gave an assembly titled 'The Mouse Trap Medicine Show'. The PTO sponsored this assembly for the students. The students were entertained by Mr. Smarty Pants and his wife by building simple machines out of balloons to build a better mouse trap. He used balloons to build a lever, wheel, pulley, inclined plane, and a screw. He talked about potential energy and kinetic energy. The program was fun and informational and the kids loved it! Below are a few pictures from the assembly.

## Literacy

In Superkids we have just begun Unit 4. This week's lesson focused on silent letters in words, the prefix 'un', and some dictionary skills. Next week we are taking a week off from Superkids to research information about different countries. The spelling list for the first week in January will go home on December 18th.

Our Super magazine this time is titled Go, Go, Go! and talks about unexpected things that move in some very interesting ways.

Just a reminder that TumbleBooks is a program available to us through the Woodridge Public Library. It will be available until at least March. Your student can use the link below to get to TumbleBooks. If it prompts you for a log on use:

Read books, play games, have fun!

The sections for this entire unit are listed below and are a good source of review. If you think your child needs help in one of these areas, please go to that section.

## Star Student

Connor was our Star Student this week. We learned that Connor has been to many places but his favorite place to visit is DISNEY! Connor has 2 brothers and 1 sister. His mom sent in a couple of video clips of Connor on a Blackhawks commercial and on the Tower of Terror ride in Hollywood Studios in Disney. Scary!

Our next Star Student is . . . Ava.
