TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!
Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3-7) is # 5 weeks away!
From your PTA: Honor doesn't have to cost much but should be heart-felt. This past year has made us appreciate and value our teachers, more than ever. During the week of May 3-7, we are encouraging everyone to get involved in appreciating our Longfellow teachers and staff. Get out your markers, paint, crazy glue, craft beads or any other materials to create something homemade to give to your teaching hero. Writing a letter full of meaningful affirmations, creating a picture to hang on the wall, or bringing something that reminds your student of their teacher are some ways we can all recognize the incredible staff we have at Longfellow.
In addition to personal, individual expressions of appreciation, the PTA would also like to provide communal treats. You can sign up for those here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4BA9AC23A5FE3-teacher2
District News:
Dear Families,
We are pleased to announce that registration for ICCSD Online, the newest school in the Iowa City Community School District, will begin the week of April 5, 2021. All parents with students in grades PK-11 will receive an email with the option to enroll their child(ren) in the ICCSD Online program for the 2021-22 school year. A confirmation email will be sent to all parents who select ICCSD Online for the 2021-22 school year along with a welcome letter to the school.
Using the email that will be sent on April 5th, we are asking for interested parents to reserve a place in the program for the 2021-22 school year by April 12. This early enrollment period will help us better plan for the needs of our online students and assist us in the staffing process. We appreciate the families who are able to make the commitment to the online program at this time.
For parents who are unable to make a decision in April, the District will offer a second enrollment period in June, allowing parents to change their enrollment election up to July 1, 2021. Additionally, given the uncertainties surrounding the status of a childhood COVID-19 vaccine, the District will allow families to change enrollment at the end of the first trimester for the 2021-22 school year.
ICCSD Online serves students in grades PK-12 in a 100% virtual environment. Students in the school meet with teachers and classmates virtually using Zoom technology. This year, over 6,000 students participated in the earliest iteration of the program. Throughout the year, a committee of teachers and administrators collected and reviewed hundreds of pages of feedback from parents, students, and teachers. The result is ICCSD Online, the new permanent virtual learning option offered by the Iowa City Community School District.
In addition to the ICCSD Online informational website, we will also offer webinars explaining the program on the following dates:
- Elementary: Monday, March 29, 7:00 pm,
Zoom Link: https://iowacityschools-org.zoom.us/j/97236237243 - Junior High: Tuesday, March 30, 7:00 pm,
