Knights in the Know
August 17, 2018
What a Great Week!
Students in every class have created respect agreements with their classmates and teacher. Conversations that led to the respect agreements include how students want to be treated by their peers and teacher, how the teacher would like to be treated by students, and how we respect our school. Please ask your child about the agreement they reached with their class.
Each week the Knights in the Know newsletter will go home via email. If you miss an issue, we also post them on our school website and we attach a link on our Facebook page. We are hoping that you will celebrate with us the wonderful things that are happening on campus.
We have a Parent Handbook page that should be able to answer a lot of questions about Blanton. The handbook includes our dress code, information about birthday snacks, class parties, and much more. Please take a moment to review the handbook.
We look forward to a great year!

Conferences
Blanton staff believes that students learn best when they confer with their teacher about their strengths, their needs and then set realistic goals. It is with this belief that we will include students in our conferences this year. More information will be coming soon, but we ask that you go ahead and mark your calendars for October 12th for "student led conferences."
We look forward to partnering with you this year.
Safety and Security
- Blanton regularly conducts fire and lockdown drills to ensure that our staff and students are prepared for emergency situations. After these drills, we will email parents to let you know the type of drill that occurred. We want you to be able to discuss the drill with your children that evening.
- Blanton has identified a campus Crisis Team and maintains a campus Crisis Plan. These are reviewed by our district every year.
- Blanton works closely with the Denton County Sherriff's office, to guarantee that we have quick response times. Our Student Resource Officer, Officer Wilkinson, is an excellent resource for our campus.
- Blanton staff are trained in procedures for all types of emergencies.
- Maps are posted in every classroom showing exit routes in case we need to evacuate.
- Blanton has designated weather safe rooms for staff and students to enter in case of severe weather.
Please contact either of us (Mrs. Bozeman or Mr. Turrubiarte) if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions for our campus in the area of safety. It is vital to us that are students and staff are in a safe environment.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Arrival
Students are dropped off in the front of the building. Our doors open at 7:15 for students to enter and go to the gym (movement activities) or the cafeteria (breakfast). In a few weeks, we will open the computer lab for students who would like to work on Imagine Math or Istation.
Classroom teachers are not on duty in their classrooms until 7:30. When the 7:30 bell rings, students may go to their homerooms. Any parent wishing to walk their child to class may do so between 7:30-7:40. Beginning Monday, August 27th, parents wishing to walk their child to class will need to check in at the office prior to doing so. Please remember to bring your identification to help with this process.
We ask that no parents drive through the drive that separates Blanton and Harpool in the mornings. We block that drive off with cones in order to keep our bikers and walkers safe. It is also for the safety of Harpool students who walk to school early. Thank you for helping keep our students safe.
Dismissal
Students are dismissed in one of five ways: ESD (here on campus), Parent pickup (car line), walker, bike rider, or daycare/bus.
ESD~Students are walked by a staff member to the ESD staff.
Biker~ Students are walked by a staff member to the bike rack. Two staff members then lead the bikers to the crosswalk on Stacee Lane. Once they cross, they ride home.
Walker~Students are led to the crosswalk on Stacee Lane by a teacher in that grade level. Once they cross, they continue walking home. Parents wishing to meet their child may do so on the Lantana side of our crosswalk.
Day Care/Bus~Students are led to the front of the school by a teacher. The day care staff pick them up at that location.
Parent Pickup (via car)~Car riders are dismissed at the back of the school through the cafeteria. Our staff members walk students to the cafeteria where they wait for their car number to be called. The dark green car tags are bit difficult to read so please bear with us and be sure it is hanging from your front mirror. Your number is read twice (once for the students inside the cafeteria so they can come out and another time to let them know which color to stand on). We ask 8 cars at a time to move forward to the cones. Once all cars are stopped, we will load your children in those 8 cars. All vehicles stay stopped until our staff person in front motions you to go. This is for the safety of our children who are still loading. Once all are loaded, those 8 cars pull forward and 8 more pull up to be loaded. Children who are new to Blanton are just learning the system and we may ask that you pull forward so we can bring your child to you. Please stay in your car and we will get them.
Thank you for your help during arrival and dismissal times. Please remember that school zones are also hands-free cell phone zones. This helps keep all of us safer.
