A Message From Our Principal
Our second semester of the school year is in full swing! We are excited about our "One School, One Book" program this year, and are ready for Literacy Night next Tuesday. The students have been enjoying discussing the book in class and answering the daily trivia questions.
I want to give a shout out to our third graders who sang at the Foundation of Fort Mill Schools Chili Cook-Off this past Saturday at NFHS. They did a wonderful job! A big thanks to the many families and staff that stopped by our school's chili table to try our chili. Mrs. Reagan Taylor, 5th grade teacher, was our chef and made an awesome chili!
We are a little more than halfway through the school year. Our students have made a lot of progress this year, and we have a lot of instruction and learning yet to go. I encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns at all on your child's progress. We are all happy to answer your questions and discuss the progress of a child's learning at any time.
We are also in that time of year when we have cases of strep and flu going around the school. As always, we are encouraging students to wash their hands throughout the day and before and after meals. As a reminder, a student who has had a fever must have a temperature below 100.4 without the assistance of fever reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school. Students who have experienced vomiting or diarrhea must also be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for following these rules, so we can minimize the spread of illness as much as possible. For any specific questions, please feel free to call Nurse Sova with any questions.
Please feel free contact me if you have any questions. I am happy to help. Thank you for your continued support for Springfield Elementary and your student's education! Enjoy your upcoming weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone next week at Literacy Night!

Counselor's Corner
Our school counselors are spearheading Random Acts of Kindness Week February 18-22, which is themed Ordinary Colts Doing Extraordinary Deeds. Students will be challenged in their classroom counseling lessons this month to perform random acts of kindness throughout their school day and in the community. Visit randomactsofkindness.org to learn ways to promote RAK Week at home. Throughout the week, keep an eye out for our kindness superheroes during morning drop off!
Notes from the Nurse
It is not too late for the flu vaccine
Why should people get vaccinated against the flu?
The first and most important step in preventing the flu is to get a flu vaccine each year. A flu vaccine has been shown to reduce flu related illnesses and the risk of serious flu complications. CDC also recommends everyday preventive actions (like staying away from people who are sick, covering coughs and sneezes and frequent hand-washing) to help slow the spread of germs that cause respiratory (nose, throat, and lungs) illnesses, like flu.

Remember, students must be fever free without aid of medication for 24 hours to return to school. The student must also be free from vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for your help in keeping our school healthy during this peak of flu season!

Did you know books are like a box of Valentine Chocolates?? You never know what’s inside each one! But they’re all GOOD!!!! February is the perfect month to fall in love with a GREAT book! Please remind your students to return their books each library period so they can get new ones to fall in love with.
The library continues to collect the following: old or new greeting cards (Valentine, birthday, holiday ones all work great!), starburst candy, 24 piece puzzles or 100 piece puzzles and used or new books that you would like to donate. Thanks so much for your continued support.
Until next month, LOL~
