The students have been learning about tally marks. We learned that tally marks are grouped in sets of five. The students had fun rolling dice, adding them together and then building the sum. This is a great way to practice counting by 5's as well as counting on from a number.

The students have been excited to be learning about insects and the life cycle of a butterfly. We have been observing painted lady caterpillars in our room and are patiently waiting for them to form a chrysalis. After that, in about 10 days we should have butterflies that we will then release into our butterfly garden!

Today was Earth Day! The children learned how they can help to take care of the earth. We talked about not littering, picking up trash around the school and our neighborhoods and saving water and electricity. They also learned about recycling, reusing and reducing!

During math time, the children learned about the different parts of a clock (hour, minute and second hand) and practiced telling time to the hour. We also discussed that a calendar is another tool used to measure time.

During word study time, the students learned how to do a word hunt. They look for words in books and around the room that begin with the sound(s) that they are working on in their word study group. This can also be done with sight words they can read. You might want to try to find and list sight words in books you read at home!
