Lower Mills students are Peacemakers! #CommunityPartnershipsMatter
The Lower Mills school community is blessed to have such a strong partnership with the Boston Police Department and in particular, Boston School Police. We have been able to partner with School Police to offer classroom workshops on Bullying and CyberBullying. We have also been blessed to have several community basketball games right here on Campus...BPD officers versus Lower Mills students! If you were not there, I will not tell you who won...but let's just say BPD is ready for another match! Be on the lookout, the Lower Mills Campus has partnered with the District Attorney's Office to provide a family workshop on Internet Safety. We are planning for a date after Christmas Break...more information to come!

Lower Mills Innovative Teacher Spotlight
Mrs. Carol Nesti is our Lead Early Childhood teacher here at Lower Mills. She has been teaching for 19 years, beginning her career at Saint Marks for 10 years as a K1 teacher and then joining the Lower Mills team 9 years ago! Mrs Nesti is a proud mom of 5 children and proud grandmother of 5 boys...with one on the way! Mrs. Nesti grew up in Dorchester and attended Catholic School her entire life as did all of her children. Mrs. Nesti is one of 13 children in her family...she has 1 sister and 11 brothers! Mrs. Nesti first started as a nurse working at Boston City Hospital but found her second calling when she began teaching Youth Group at Saint Marks and the rest was history! Mrs. Nesti loves the Red Sox (in particular Big Papi)...you can always count on all of her K1 scholars knowing exactly who Big Papi is, his birthdate and to be honest probably where he lives! Mrs. Nesti's love for her students is known by all. Her students who are now in college (although I am not sure how that is possible since she just turned 35 last week) come back and visit her every year! The motto in K1 is "Mistakes are how you learn" as she truly embraces a growth mindset and shares that with her 4 year old students. Mrs. Nesti's students are one of the highest performing classrooms on the Kindergarten Readiness Scores in the Academy. You may get a little confused at times, because we call it Mrs Nesti to the 3rd power...Mrs. Taryn Nesti is in our K1A classroom and Mrs. Laura Nesti is in our K1B classroom. However, they will both agree that Carol is the "original" Mrs. Nesti!
