Thank you from your FMS EXPLO Team!
Mr. Chapman
From the Art Room
6th grade will continue working on a line design, and using some of their shading techniques we have been going over, to create the illusion of depth.
7th grade are in the middle of their printmaking unit, we will be printing this week, and then also breaking it up with looking at graffiti artists, and doing our names as a side project while everyone is printing. We are also going to set up a time to hang our night and day display, as soon as we can secure a location. They did such a fantastic job in completing these, and we worked several weeks on them not to have them up on the walls somewhere.
8th Grade Will be drawing trees, and developing a deeper understanding of texture and lines, they will also do a fun mini project using handprints, and incorporating trees within them either this week, or next week. They are also playing catch up on past projects this week. .
WIN will be developing word sound posters in the Pop Art fashion, we will begin on the possibly towards the end of this week or beginning of next. They are also gathering ideas and interest in the upcoming wagon parade
As always any questions or concerns, please contact me at cchapman@fulto58.org

6th graders had fun starting off the week with a typing racing competition. They also completed a mini-unit on Computer Parts. (see pictures below) Their typing words per minute goal will remain go up to 16 wpm with 90% accuracy next week. While some students have already met grade level goals, all students should practice to improve their skills. Students were instructed if they did not meet their minimum goal that they should practice at home. They may practice anytime at typingtraining.com. Students can even use their Chromebooks to practice anywhere they have an Internet connection. They all have their login information. If you have any issues logging on at home, please email me. You can monitor your child's progress at home and school by going to the reports menu after they have logged into Typing Training. Many computer students email to ask login information or for me to assign specific assignments on typingtraining.com. I welcome these emails and respond as soon as possible.

HORNET SINGERS:
Hornet Singers...though they be but few, they be mighty!
The students have had a few great rehearsals to begin 2017. Last week we began working on our Latin skills...that's right, Latin. Ask your child to showcase what they've learned. I have a feeling you might be a bit impressed!
Students have been attending solo and small ensemble lessons as assigned in preparation for Central Methodist University's Music Festival in March. Don't forget about the Pre-Fest Showcase for these specific students on Monday, Feb. 13th @ 6pm.
The choir handbook and schedule is online for your perusal anytime. (www.fulton58.org)
HARMONY HORNETS:
We are so proud of the hard work these students give every Tuesday! Our amazing group is made up of a mixture of 6th-8th grade (7th/8th band or guitar members) and has great energy and interest in making great music. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 3:20 - 4:15 in the FMS choir room (G07).
We have a few new members for this semester and we can't wait to see what they add to the ensemble as we continue working for our performance in May!
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me at llehman@fulton58.org.
HORNET PRIDE:
We are already laying the groundwork for our contest repertoire. Our singers are doing a great job of preparing the notes and rhythms, and we will begin adding the Latin words to our foreign language piece this week! We will be singing two selections at Central Methodist University's music festival on Friday, March 3rd. I'm looking forward to learning this music, and sharing it with a larger audience!
PLEASE REMEMBER that choir members MUST be in uniform at ALL of our performances this year. You may purchase the required polo shirt by bring $13 ($15 for XL) to Dr. Moebes. You will receive a receipt for your payment.
ARTS ALIVE:
Our practice and study of rhythm is progressing nicely. We are continuing our study of music theory, and putting it into practice through games, and creating choreography. Last week we worked hard on our special project that deals with rewriting song lyrics.
We have also started a unit called "Music Makes the Scene!" This is our daily warm-up activity, during which we watch a short video clip that has music assigned to it. Students describe how the music affects what they think, feel, and notice about the associated video. This gives us the opportunity to listen to a variety of styles of music: rock, symphonic, and ethnic music and instruments from around the world, for example. Later in the quarter, we will try our hands at creating our OWN video/audio mash-ups!
As part of our analysis of music and visual art, students recently had the opportunity to watch portions of an opera: Hansel and Gretel.
