This week, students in second and third grade will be administered the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Progam (ACAP) in the subject areas of reading and math. This test is required by the state of Alabama and is designed to provide information about what students know in core academic areas.
The testing schedule is shown below. It is important that you have your child at school on time. If for some reason your child arrives at school during the testing times for their class, they will wait in the office until the test is completed then will be scheduled for a make -up session. Please ensure that your child does not bring any electronic devices (cell phones, ipods, etc.) to school during this time.
As a parent, you can help your child be prepared to do his/her best on the assessment by doing the following:
Have your child at school BEFORE 7:45am each day.
Do not check your child out of school or schedule appointments during your child’s testing. Second grade will test at 8:15am. Third grade will test at 9:45am.
Avoid stressful situations at home.
See that your child gets a good night’s sleep.

Dear ACS Parents,
The Alabama State Department of Education is moving to a new student information/data management and enrollment system called PowerSchool. PowerSchool will be the new Student Information System (SIS) and Student Enrollment Platform for Athens City Schools replacing iNow/Chalkable and SchoolMint for enrollment.
PowerSchool for Enrollment
ACS will use PowerSchool for online enrollment and re-enrollment, replacing the previous SchoolMint enrollment platform.
All current ACS students must re-enroll each year.
Student re-enrollment is typically conducted each spring before the end of the school year.
Current student re-enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year will be conducted in the summer of 2021 (due to the transition to the new PowerSchool SIS system).
More information on re-enrollment will be provided to parents as we near the re-enrollment period over the summer.
More about PowerSchool
PowerSchool is an easy to use, web-based Student Information System (SIS) that will serve as a tool for parents, students and teachers to communicate student performance. PowerSchool can be accessed from any place a parent/guardian has internet access. More information on the new student database system will be shared at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year.
Thank you for your patience during this time of transition. Should you have any questions regarding enrollment, please email Mr. Mike O’Rear at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 256-233-6600.
