Adult and Community Education
"In The Know" 12/13/16
A Message from the Leadership Team
Adult Education
As we end our last week of classes for the fall term continue to engage students in meaningful activities and lessons. Please be sensitive to many of our adult learners who do not recognize or celebrate the upcoming holidays. Remind your students that we look forward to seeing them back on January 4th (Day Students) & January 9th (Evening Students) and if they have not yet registered that they should do so soon.
Please remember that we will be hosting professional development/Holiday Celebration to end the year at LWTC: Instructors are invited to come Monday, December 19th from 5:30-8:30 pm ; and coordinators and support staff are invited Tuesday, December 20th from 5:00-8:00 pm. We look forward to an evening of sharing, learning, and celebration!
International Cookbooks are coming soon. ELCATE students have built a collection of recipes from their home countries to share this holiday season. After the "sneak peak" we can tell you there are some very yummy recipes!! Cookbooks will be available at the Campus School store starting Wednesday, December 14th while supplies last. The hot holiday cost is only $8.00 and money is going to be used within the ELCATE program. Thank you for your support and Bon Appetit!

COMMUNITY RESOURCES FROM BARBARA BELKOFF
Community organizations are a great place to find helpful resources, places that can help us with sometimes difficult situations. Community organizations depend on volunteers to help provide those resources. ONE of the very real ways to become part of a community is to become a volunteer within that community. You interact, speak and assist those living in your own backyard. Volunteering is a great way to practice our skills and also can be a great way to look for future employment.
So on a weekly basis I will share volunteer opportunities in Collier County.
Assist the Cancer Alliance of Naples at the reception desk greeting visitors and answering the phones. Also help with putting together their information to be mailed and aid in data entry. Lots of opportunity to increase your English-speaking skills and assist with interpretation for people who do not speak English.
This organization raises money to help people needing financial support with rent, utilities and other items while battling cancer, either for them or family members. They offer free counseling, nutrition programs and run a library available to the entire community.
