Fabra Elementary
Falcon Connection - December Update
A Note from Dr. Hinojosa
I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. My family and I enjoyed staying in Boerne and seeing many of our students throughout the week, especially at Dickens on Main on Friday and Saturday. There is already lots of holiday excitement at Fabra. Our Kinder through Fifth grade students are having a great start to these next 4 weeks with many meaningful projects and lessons happening throughout.
Right before we left for break we had our annual Science Fair. I wanted to give a very special thank you to all who make this event possible. It really is a collaborative effort with parents, PTO, teachers, community judges, and more coming together to provide this experience for our students. We had some very unique and detailed projects and greatly enjoyed the awards presentation. Also prior to Thanksgiving, our Fabra Dual Language finalists competed and did very well at our district spelling bee. Congratulations to all!
Progress reports will be available to view online on December 11th. If you need support accessing it on Skyward or would like a paper copy please don't hesitate in reaching out to any of us in the Fabra office. Skyward allows you to be continually informed of your child's grades so that you don't miss a beat in their learning and progress. Parent conferences have been ongoing over the last few months and our teachers have met with most of our parents. We encourage all parents who have not yet had a meeting to schedule one.
Below are just a few notes, reminders, and events to note as we enter December. It will be a short 3 weeks after Friday!
Hope everyone has a super evening and weekend.

Gifted and Talented Nominations
Students are nominated for screening for the G/T Program each spring. Identification criteria include test scores, student product ratings, and teacher ratings. Students who meet the district standard on 3 of the 5 criteria area identified as gifted. Students who meet the district standard on 2 criteria and have a 3rd close score are selected for the Talent Pool, which is a one-year placement. You may review the nomination procedures and fill out a parent/guardian nomination form from the resources available on the BISD Advanced Academics Website. Click HERE for nomination form.
Genius Hour II & Career Day Presenters
Next Friday we are having our second Genius Hour. Students will have an opportunity to select a class from offerings including fine arts, hobbies, sports, or special interests. We are beginning the coordination process for our next Genius Hour which will focus on careers. If you are interested in volunteering your time for a half or full day to share information about your career to our students, please let us know.
Holiday Family Movie Night
Communication
All should receive regular grade level specific newsletters from their teacher. If you have not received these, please let us know so that we can add you to their lists. If you want to say up to date on social media we are on Facebook and Twitter . Come by and like or follow our pages! PTO also does a super job with regular posts. Like their page here.
A few friendly reminders...
Lost and Found
We have a collection of jackets, sweaters, lunchboxes and more that our students leave behind daily. Please remind your child to look through all items if they have lost an item recently. You are also welcome to come in to check. All lost and found items will be donated to a local charity at the end of the month.
Attendance
Our school day begins with our first bell at 7:25 a.m. and the tardy bell 7:35 a.m. Please continue to be at school on time so that your child does not miss announcements which include recognition, character, and other important school events. Being tardy often also affects your child's academics as they may miss the same academic content each time.
Daily attendance is very important and we appreciate you coordinating your schedules, doctors appointments, vacations, etc. around our school day/year. If your child is absent due to an illness, please submit a note to Mrs. Leigh Ann Pierce in the office upon their return.
Parking Lot Drop-Off
Due to safety concerns, dropping off your child in either of our two parking lots alone is not permitted. You are welcome to park and walk your child to the crosswalk. If you do so, please be mindful of any handicap signs.
Lunch Visitors
We love seeing parents and grandparents join us for lunch. It is a very special treat for our students that often makes their day. Simply bring your ID and check in the front office when you come. Students are allowed to invite one friend to eat with them. Food cannot be shared and pictures should not be taken without parent consent.
