π« One School - One Book π
What is One School, One Book?
We are excited to launch our βOne School One Bookβ reading program. Participating in a school-wide reading program such as βOne School One Bookβ helps build a community of readers and a sense of belonging within our school. Families reading together help children listen better and longer, build vocabulary, and develop a positive attitude about books and learning. Reading professionals recommend that families read aloud to children even when they are able to read by themselves.
When an entire school reads together, it generates excitement about reading and being a part of a fun program! In school, your child will be invited to answer daily trivia questions to encourage and reward attentive, aggressive listening. You will soon find that your child will take pride in knowing and anticipating the details of the story.
In classrooms, there may be various activities which discuss or explore the book. You will want to make sure that your family keeps up with the readings, so your child can be included. Throughout our One School, One Book initiative, everyone (teachers, students, administration, bus drivers, custodians, and support staff) will be talking about the book.
The book for this year is Smack Dab in the Middle of Maybe by Jo Watson Hackl. Every student and staff member will receive a copy of the book as a gift from Eblen Intermediate School to read with their families.
On February 21st, Ms. Jo Watson Hackl will be visiting Eblen to speak with students and discuss the book! We hope that you enjoy engaging and collaborating with us as we read Smack Dab in the Middle of Maybe together!

2. Important info to talk to your student about π
- When people are new to our building it is sometimes difficult to locate the main entrance. Some people end up in our bus parking lot thinking that is the main entrance. Please remind your student to not open any exterior school door for anyone. This is out of an abundance of caution to keep everyone in our building safe. We have added reminders to all of our exterior doors.
- You will notice that students will be bringing devices home in case we have inclement weather. Please monitor them while they are on device and make sure they are bringing them back to school when they return.
3. PARENT RESOURCES π€
- If you need to get in contact with your students teacher you can do so though our staff contact page or through Class Dojo.
- Reminder - Due to the length of our Car rider line, the building opens at 7:00 AM every morning, please do not drop your students off until Sr. Alex or Mr. Gibbs are there to greet you. Additionally, we extend a five minute grace period for students who arrive late.
β¨ Our School Goals β¨
School performance grades ranging from A through F are assigned to individual schools each year based on a two-part formula. The combination of achievement and growth scores are converted to a 100-point scale, which are then converted to a letter grade.
Eblen Intermediate has a goal for the end of the 2023-2024 school year to achieve a letter grade of a C! In order to meet this goal, we have calculated that we will need to meet our growth and have an achievement score of 51 or exceed our growth and have an achievement score of 47. These numbers are posted around our building. Ask your student about these numbers and goals and how they play a role in reaching these goals!
