Cap & Gown Distribution--Thursday

We will have another cap and gown distribution for seniors who have paid this Thursday, May 14, from 11-1. You may pay online at http://alabamabalfour.com.

Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica Graduation Cords

The deadline to pay for Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica graduation cords is Friday, May 15. Contact Sra. Dean with any questions at pmdean@mcssk12.org.

Graduation Speeches

Congratulations, seniors! You have worked so hard to get here, and though your year didn't end the way you planned, it doesn't take away from your accomplishments.

We are planning for your upcoming graduation ceremony, and we are ready to hear your planned speeches. Please submit your videos to ebrady@madison.k12.al.us by Friday, May 29.

Speeches should be appropriate for our graduation opening or closing and be between 2 to 5 minutes in length. Speakers must be graduating seniors from the HG Class of 2020 and be in good standing with the school in regards to grades, behavior, absences, and debts.

Again, congratulations and we can't wait to see you again.

Prom Cancelled

The 2020 HGHS Jr/Sr Prom has been cancelled. We will provide refunds as soon as possible.

AP Exams

AP exams began Monday and will continue through Friday, May 22. Students, please make sure you have received your test ticket from College Board. This will be sent out 48 hours before the day of your exam. If you have questions, please check with your child's teacher or contact Mrs. McKinney.

Prepare for Senior Sprint

The Senior Sprint (virtual career fair) begins today, and it's a great opportunity for seniors who are looking for a job. Over 20 companies will be gathering virtually May 13-15 to talk with students, and some are interviewing and possibly hiring on the spot.

To help interested seniors prepare for the Senior Sprint and navigate the process, Mrs. Jewart, Career Coach, has set up some Google Meets. If one of these remaining times doesn't work for you, email kjewart@madison.k12.al.us to set up another meeting time.

Alabama Lions Opportunities for Youth Fund Scholarships

The ALOYF Board has approved two $1,000 scholarships for graduating high school seniors in Alabama for 2020. Complete applications must be received by June 15, 2020. Requirements include a 22 or higher ACT score.

HGHS Graduation: We are excited to celebrate the Class of 2020 with a graduation ceremony on July 15, 2020, at 5 p.m. in the VBC Arena. Graduation rehearsal for seniors will be July 15th from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the VBC Arena.


PowerSchool Enrollment: PowerSchool Enrollment for next school year is now open and ends May 31! Returning students need a Snapcode for enrollment. Snapcodes are being emailed again. New students do not need a Snapcode. Visit mcssk12.org/Page/11188 to enroll.


Yearbook Sales: Yearbook sales have been shifted to the Balfour website which can be accessed at the link below. There is a limited number left for purchasing.

Cafeteria Refunds for Graduating Seniors: Graduating seniors may receive a refund of balance of their accounts. The process will be the same as that for students withdrawing from the system.

· Checks will only be sent for amounts of $10 or more. To receive a check, parents or guardians must email Linda Tillman with the student name, school the student attended, name of person to receive payment, and address to send payment. Send email to ltillman@mcssk12.org.

· Any refunds of less than $10 will be paid in cash when the local schools reopen—this may not be until Fall 2020.


Dual Enrollment: The Calhoun Dual Enrollment Department has recorded a comprehensive Dual Enrollment orientation video for students and parents who are considering, or are participating in, Dual Enrollment with Calhoun Community College.

Calhoun's Virtual Dual Enrollment Transition Information Session: Calhoun Community College will host another virtual Dual Enrollment TRANSITION information session on Thursday, May 14, at 11 a.m. This session will help answer your admissions questions, and you'll hear first-hand from students about their Calhoun experience and scholarship opportunities. Mobile Feeding Program: The Mobile Feeding Program in partnership with the Heart of the Valley YMCA began this week. Meals are available for MCSS students at the following locations Monday-Friday. This program will continue through July 31st.

  • 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. - Hazel Green Elementary School
  • 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Madison Cross Roads Elementary School
  • 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Harvest Elementary School

MySchoolFees: You can pay class fees and other school fees online by following these instructions for MySchoolFees.


Online Application for Free/Reduced Meals: Online free and reduced meal applications are available at the link below for a faster, more confidential way to apply. A new application must be completed each school year to qualify for free or reduced meals. Your child's eligibility status carries over to the new school year for the first 30 school days, allowing parents time to re-apply. Only one application per household should be submitted, and everyone living in the house must be included on the application.
