Mustang News
ALEX MYERS Alamo's hero.
November 30, 2020
Dear Alamo Families,
I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday. Our teachers return with a busy schedule ahead of them before winter break: semester-end assessments, report cards, professional development, collaborating to plan for the reopening on January 5, to name a few tasks.
This week we begin our traditional Alamo Pride program. Students are recognized when they model the following character strengths: citizenship, caring, fairness, respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness. When students are caught being good, their names will be announced in our weekly Mustang Broadcast to recognize their accomplishments. We want our students to learn that character is more than a person's behavior. It is an aggregate of thoughts, feelings, and actions recognized and encouraged every day.
At my next Principal Chat, I will address all the inquiries about how the Governor's announcement of an impending lockdown affects our January 5 reopening as I should have more information then.
Next week on Tuesday (12/8) and Wednesday (12/9), teachers will attend full-day professional development. Your children will receive asynchronous work for both days; there will be no live instructions.
Please stay safe and well.
Warmly,
Principal Salazar

Shoutout!
Alamo Education Fund
Thank You for Your Alamo School Ed Fund Quilt Participation! Thank you to all who participated in the Alamo School Ed Fund quilt projects by grade. We look forward to seeing the final masterpieces! These will surely be a wonderful keepsake. A huge shout out to supporting partner Quiltlove https://givequiltlove.com/ for sewing all the quilt patches together to make a cohesive grade quilt. Each grade's quilt will be auctioned off in the March online silent auction, benefiting the Alamo Ed Fund. None of this would be possible without the incredible accomplishments of Alamo Ed Fund Quilt Chair and Kinder Parent Laura Prentiss. Thank you too to the marketing and silent auction team of Crissi Armstrong, Amy Chang, Lauren Cymerys, Meredith Maffeo, Nina Voss, Dina Warshavsky, and Bridget Williams. Last but never least, thank you to Ed Fund Board Teacher Rep Ms. Fettig, Office Manager Gayle Hughey, and the Alamo School teachers and administration.

Alamo Elementary School is working once again with our Sister School- Dover Elementary. There are around 20 families who are either homeless or on the verge of homelessness and we would like to help them receive a warm meal and a gift over the holidays. Thank you Bar Kastershain and Christina Heil for making this drive happen. Please click here if you are able to help, or email cooperseyes@gmail.com for more information.
Finally, as today is Giving Tuesday, I wanted to remind everyone of the GOFUNDME campaign set up for Alamo School’s own, Alex Meyers, and his battle with Metastatic Rhabdomyosarcoma. Alex is currently undergoing aggressive treatment to fight this disease. The Myers family have been an integral part of the Alamo School community for over 6 years. Alex is a 5th grader who loves football, baseball, and hanging out with his friends. Bryan has coached Alex's SRVLL baseball team for 6 years, and also plays basketball with other Alamo School dads. Krista has volunteered at Alamo school events, and also donated to our Alamo School auction for several years. The outpouring of support from friends and family have touched them beyond words. Let's continue to support the Myers family as Alex undergoes 42 weeks of frontline chemo. Please consider donating to the gofundme campaign set up for the Meyers family to help with medical bills and other expenses: https://gf.me/u/y86g57
Thank you everyone, stay safe.
