WRHS Academic Awards Ceremony - Invitation Only
The INVITATION ONLY WRHS Academic Awards Ceremony for 9th-12th graders is being held on Thursday, April 27th at 6pm in the WRHS gym. While some invited students have been nominated for departmental awards, the majority of invitees will be recognized for academic honors---earning a 3.5 UNWEIGHTED GPA or higher. For this distinction you will receive a WRHS academic letter patch or silver academic honors bar (if patch was already received in previous years.)
What most students don't realize is that this is a high honor, and these distinctions are often displayed on school letterman jackets, which is a tradition dating back to the mid 1800s when letterman sweaters were first worn by baseball players at Harvard. In the 1950's it was popular for a girl to wear her boyfriend's letterman jack to show they were a couple. The letterman jacket has since grown to exemplify the extracurricular and academic excellence of any individual. Whether you earn your letter through athletics, academics or extracurriculars, let the letter you receive be a mark of your own personal success and growth.
In keeping with this rich history, WRHS has letterman hoodies available for purchase to display your academic, sports, and/or extracurricular achievements (Florida is a little too hot for wool letterman jackets :)
