QES Pioneer Campus Notes
Greetings QES Pioneer Families!
We so enjoyed seeing our students on campus this week, even though the weather impacted us on Thursday. Hopefully, in the future, new snow will only fall on weekends.
* AM/PM sessions Mon-Thurs. We will continue with our am session (8:10-10:50) and our pm session (12:05-2:45) format, Monday through Thursday, and offer zoom sessions (8:15 assembly, followed by zoom session with teacher) and asynchronous learning on Fridays. Students who were in an am session, will continue in the am, and students who were in a pm session will continue in the pm.
* Fridays. Students are not on campus on Fridays, unless they need Internet services from 8-11. Unfortunately, at this time, no transportation is available on Fridays. Please call if interested. Space is limited.
* Recess. Students will receive a 10-15 minute recess break towards the end of their session. Since we're working with Mountain Kids, we'll most likely be going out for fresh air even when the weather is a little cooler or damp. Please dress accordingly. If students do not have boots on and we have snow on campus, we'll have to restrict students to the blacktop only.
* Safety. We will need to continue following our safety protocols: students must be healthy to attend school, students must be wearing properly fitting clean masks, students must stay 6' apart from other students as much as possible, students will have to wash hands or use disinfectant frequently. Our wonderful Custodial Team, Mr. Peter and Mr. Mike will clean and disinfect between sessions and perform a complete, thorough sanitizing of the school on Fridays.
* Thank you! We appreciate your cooperation with our safety protocols. We are hopeful that if we all work together then we can continue to offer am and pm sessions through the end of the school year.
100 books challenge! Read, read-to, or read-with 100 books by the end of May! They can count up to 2 books/week they read with their teacher, but we want to also encourage students to be practicing their reading outside of their time with their teacher, and develop healthy reading habits. Reading logs were distributed in the December 18 distribution. Students will fill in their reading logs, and turn into their teacher once they've read 100 books. Now may be a good time to set aside 20-30 minutes each evening with no TV electronics on, and everyone reading (including parents who can model reading to their children). Teachers will share the book logs with me, and I will provide students some recognition. Thanks for participating!
We always enjoy seeing pictures of you and your family participating in learning activities and especially catching your child and family reading. Please share with us! You can send them via email to areeder@pcoe.k12.ca.us and/or Ms. Barbara at bgoulet@pcoe.k12.ca.us - we miss you and enjoy seeing your pictures!
In closing, we appreciate your ongoing support and partnership to provide an exceptional elementary educational experience for our students. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
Enjoy your weekend!
Alan Reeder

Hello Alder Families:
It was wonderful to have our AM/PM students back on campus, and what a treat it was to have snow on our first day back! We hope our students enjoyed their snow day at home yesterday and were able to play outside and enjoy our great outdoors.
During our snowy and rainy days, please remember that we will be going outside. If possible, please have your student wear a coat and boots. If they expect to play in the snow, they should wear snow pants. We will not be calling home for dry clothes except in extreme circumstances, as students are only at school a bit more than an hour following recess. We do not want them to be uncomfortable, so please make sure they are dressed for the weather.
With the thrift stores closed, it is more difficult to make sure our students have snow and rain clothes. If you have gently used boots, coats, snow pants, hats, and/or gloves we would love to have them for students who need them. Please wash them, put them in a plastic bag and drop them off at school. We will see that snow clothes get to the people who need them.
Join us on Monday, 2/1 for a Parent-Principal Chat. Combined with Mr. Reeder and Pioneer parents, we will chat about what you have on your mind, followed by an assigned topic. Monday's topic is tech help. Please join us!
2021 Fitness Challenge - Your student has an assignment in Mrs. Hollister's class. We are taking a virtual trip based upon how many miles we log walking, running, and/or biking as a school between now and February 4th. Please help your child calculate and log their miles. Details are in Mrs. Hollister's Canvas Course. Woohoo! We made it almost to Puerto Rico! This is the last week of the Fitness Challenge. Since walking, running or biking can be difficult with snow on the ground, we've said that 30 minutes of exercise (even playing in the snow) is equal to 1 mile. So, track your time in the snow and convert it to miles for entering into our challenge!
NO ZEROES!!! We have the campaign to be a school where no one has missing assignments or zeroes! Please help us get there by encouraging your student to turn in all of their work. What a great thing -to be able to showcase QES students for being a school where there are no zeroes. And, in elementary school, no zeroes means no Fs. How wonderful!
We have a 2021 School Motto. Our Student Council has branded this year's QES theme:
Keeping Hope and Kindness Alive at QES!! It is a fitting tribute to our wonderful students.
If you have any concerns or suggestions we would love to hear them. Please do not hesitate to email lhollister@pcoe.k12.ca.us or call 283-6557. You can also contact Mrs. Hollister or your teacher using the Parent Square app.
