St Luke's Catholic Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 7 | 24 November 2021

Advent marks the commencement of the Church’s liturgical year.
In this time of preparation as we wish each other well and share cards and gifts with family and friends, it is good for us to remember, each day, just what we are preparing for – the greatest act of generosity by God to us is undoubtedly the gift of His son Jesus to the world.
He came to us as one of us, a human, humble and poor.
Yet, the divinity of Christ was made manifest to us in all he did.
Is our humanity ready to respond?
Are we prepared to follow in his path?

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent, the commencement of the Church’s liturgical Year C and a time of preparation and waiting. It is good for us to remember each day, as we wish each other well and share cards and gifts with family and friends, just what we are really preparing our hearts for and waiting for – the greatest act of generosity by God to us, the gift of His son, Jesus, to the world. He came to us as one of us, a human humble and poor. Yet, the divinity of Christ was made manifest to us in all He did. Are we prepared to follow in his path?
As we celebrate Christmas this year, let us reflect on the most important reason for celebration, the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ!
Staffing 2022
It is with great sadness I also have to announce that Marjorie Dohnt and Jenni Allen (TSH) will be retiring at the end of this year. Marjorie is retiring after 21 years at St Luke’s and 29 years in Catholic Education while Jenni Allen from TSH is also retiring after 5 years at St Luke’s. God bless you both.
It is also with great sadness that Nina McIntosh is leaving on a secondment arrangement to St Simon Peter, Ocean Reef to work closer to home and have a change of schools after 20 years of excellent service to St Luke’s. Zoe Lynch who worked at St Luke’s for 15 dedicated years was appointed a substantive position at Wesley College, South Perth. After 10 wonderful years at St Luke’s, Jo Harvey has been appointed Pre Primary teacher at Swan Christian College. Jodi Lyra looked after our Uniform Shop for 4 years and was a volunteer before that; left us at the end of last term as we relocated the Uniform Shop offsite. Georgia Mola has been appointed Pre Primary teacher at Queen of Apostles, Riverton. Susan Kadak has been appointed Kindy teacher at St Gerard’s, Westminster. Emily Welsh has been appointed a position at St Peter's. Meg Horne was appointed to a leadership role at Mercy College, Koondoola. Mackenzie Hawk has been appointed to the Autism Association of Western Australia as an Inclusion Facilitator. Kellie Hayes concludes her time here with us this term, and we hope she will return to do relief in 2022.
To all of you, thank you for sharing your wonderful gifts and talents with staff and children. We wish you well, thank you for your amazing contribution to our school and thank you for endearing us with your professionalism, charm and support for the children in your care. You all will be missed but never forgotten. May the wind be always at your back!
I am pleased to announce:
- Mrs Annette Barron from Holy Cross College, Ellenbrook has been appointed Year Two Blue Teacher for 2022 on a secondment arrangement. Annette comes to us with 24 years teaching experience in the early years, which continues to be her passion.
- Brooke Udy from Somerly Primary School has been appointed Year One White teacher for 2022.
- Georgia Blyton from O’Connor Primary School, Kalgoorlie has been appointed Year Three Blue teacher for 2022. Georgia is an ex St Luke’s and Sacred Heart student.
- Elise Andreou has been appointed as an Education Assistant for 2022. Elise is also an ex St Luke’s student.
Please join with me in congratulating these new staff to St Luke’s and know they are very excited to be sharing their gifts and talents with the staff, students, parents and wider community.

Christmas Concert
The excitement is certainly building for what should be a wonderful evening of performances and community carols. Please be mindful that all children from PP-6 are expected to attend this event. The concert will begin at 6.45pm. The slightly later start time was chosen to avoid the potential heat issue that occurred in previous years and it will also mean we can bust out some lovely Christmas lights! You are welcome to come earlier to set up your picnics on the lawn prior to the concert. When it is time for the concert, the students will be called up to sit at the front with their classes to ensure a smooth transition between class items during the show. Thank you to all the amazing staff, including Mr Hogan, who are working incredibly hard behind the scenes in preparation. Thanks also to Mrs Farcich and our P&F who will be selling 'light up' candles and treats on the night. We hope it will be a very special evening for you all.

Turn Your Anger Around Without Yelling
Weʼve all had those days. You know the ones… the days where your child has refused to get ready for school, thrown food at their brother and is in a right mood. Your teenager slams the door when you ask them to clean up their bedroom. You ask and ask again. And again. And the kids just wonʼt listen. That, or if they listen, they wonʼt do as theyʼre told!
In this week's article, read how to turn your anger around without yelling. Click here to read more.

P&F NEWS
Welcome everyone to the last 2 weeks of school for 2021!
Hopefully everyone has enough gas in the tank to celebrate what a fabulous year our school community has experienced together. This was definitely evident over the weekend with our school’s Family Camp held up at Gingin.
Here is some of the great feedback from first-time parents who went along!
"Thank you to all of you for looking out for our kids as your own. I just loved the freedom we could give them, knowing they were safe with their friends. We will be back next year! E has already asked how many days until next year's camp."
"My kids are asking to go back to camp. I'd say we will be going every year now."
"So appreciative of how kind and considerate everyone's kids are towards each other"
"Truly "It takes a village to raise a child.""
Family Camp
The P & F would really like to take this opportunity to thank those parents who made this successful weekend possible and extremely fun for our school families to experience together. In particular to Nicki Francis, MJ Simms and their helpers for organising the scavenger hunt, icy poles, movie night and slip’n’slide. A great time was had by all. Behind the scenes over these last few months Alana Metaxas worked her magic to liaise with the caravan park, organise the Flexischool app, send out information to families and just ensure the weekend was safe and enjoyable for all. We really appreciate all the time you have poured into this wonderful event.
Finally, parents and carers the P & F would love to start organising the parent representatives for next year’s classes. If you have a little bit of time free and like connecting with other school families (especially those from your children’s classes) please forward your interest to us! We would love to have all the year groups covered (with 2 representatives each) before school commences in February. The role is super fun, no experience required, and the small commitments are easy to manage.
