Graduation Reminders and Updates (Recordatorios y actualizaciones de graduación)
We are working hard to make sure students and families have a wonderful in-person graduation and will be sharing all of the final details soon, although you have a lot of the information already. This year is much more complicated than in past years due COVID rules and restrictions.
San Mateo County has announced that all guests for graduations must wear a mask regardless of being vaccinated even though the events are outdoors. So please make sure you have a mask on. We will have two different entrances for the event that will be assigned to balance the number of people entering at a given location and because we will be required to have a health screening process in-place much like the students have when they enter school each morning. One entrance will be by the gym and the other will be at the middle gate on Maddux along the field. We will have staff and security at each entrance to assist.
As a reminder, we will be doing a grade check on Tuesday, June 1, to determine which students are eligible to participate in graduation. We will also notify those who are invited to the special honors lunch that is on Wednesday, June 9.

Those who are currently in regular 6th grade math may take two challenge tests the week of June 1 to see if they qualify for accelerated 7th grade math. If they qualify they will be required to work independently this summer about 2-4 hours a day to makeup math they missed this year by not being in the 6th grade accelerated math course. If you are interested in this, please email me, sadler@rcsdk8,.net, by this Thursday, May 27, and we will make arrangements for your student to come and take the tests that week in-person.

It has been confirmed that we can do one graduation ceremony this year. The ceremony will be at 6:00 pm on June 10, on the Kennedy field. Students will need to arrive at 5:00 pm.
Here are other key details:
Each student will get two guest tickets for graduation. We will need to know way in advance who will be attending for each student. There will be all sorts of screening and safety procedures that will be put in place for the ceremony. More details will be provided as we get closer. Seating will be assigned randomly ahead of time.
Sidewalks outside of the school surrounding the field must remain clear, so people cannot stand along the fences and watch the ceremony.
Since we had to limit seats/attendees this year (mainly because chairs have to be six feet apart due to current graduation regulations), we have hired a professional videographer so that everyone will eventually get to see the graduation once we get the edited video link. We thought about professionally live streaming the event, but it was too expensive.
Students will be provided a graduation gown to borrow (forest green) and a Kennedy mask to keep (white with forest green print) to wear during the ceremony.
As mentioned numerous times this year, students must have a cumulative GPA of a 2.0 or higher to participate in the ceremony. We will do a final grade check on Tuesday, June 1, to determine all students who are eligible to participate in the ceremony and other activities.

Vaccination Collaboration Plan:
Access to the Pfizer vaccine soon will be easier for RCSD students who are 12-years of age and older.
