  • Students who have not completed all aspects of the culmination contract, but have met the 50 credit culmination requirement, can appeal to participate in the culmination ceremony. Appeals should indicate strong improvement from first to second semester in the area not met, and documentation of extenuating circumstances. Students who are at risk of not completing one or more area received a warning notice. If needed you may sign up for a culmination appeal meeting here:
  • Culmination will take place on June 8 at 4:00 p.m. at Fairfax High School. Students must report to culmination at 3:00 p.m. to prepare for processional
  • 8th grade breakfast will take place on June 8th at 8:30 a.m. Students will receive their gowns during the breakfast. These will be loaned to students for the ceremony for FREE. We are excited to celebrate the end of the school year, and your child’s Laurel Cinematic Arts & Creative Technologies experience with our 8th Grade Culmination Ceremony. This year, the ceremony will be held at Fairfax High School’s Auditorium, at 4:00 pm on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Students should meet at the Fairfax HS Auditorium between 2:45 and 3:00 p.m.

In order to make this event a wonderful experience for all, we have developed some rules and procedures. Please take the time to read over the items listed below and review the rules and procedures with your child.

Students must meet eligibility requirements to participate in the 2023 Culmination ceremony. (Final warning letters were sent our last Thursday and a notice of non-eligibility will be sent no later than June 2, 2022)

Culmination Attire

At 8th grade breakfast, all students will receive a gown to be worn to the ceremony. We are encouraging students to dress nicely under their gowns to commemorate the culmination ceremony, such as:

• Simple styled dresses, skirts or suits; not too tight, nor too short or too long

• Dress Shoes for comfort/safety (Shoes with heels not recommended, since students will need to walk up and down stairs)

• Suit or slacks with sport coat or sweater

• Sunglasses and hats of any kind are not appropriate

• General grooming and hairstyle appropriate for Culmination

Parents should bring students to Fairfax no later than 3:00 p.m. Parking will take place in the Fairfax High School parking lot.

Any event that involves the coordinated staging of pupils requires the utmost cooperation of every participant. Since the inappropriate behavior of even a few individuals can have an adverse effect on the pageantry of the ceremony, every participant must follow the rules of conduct listed below:

• The participants must be present at all rehearsals and give full cooperation to the director of the rehearsal. Rehearsals will take place starting Monday, June 5, 2023 through Thursday, June 8, 2023.

• No individual will call attention to himself or herself, participate in any act that will disrupt the culmination ceremony or cause embarrassment to the graduating class.

• The culmination activity is optional and should only be attended by pupils who wish to give their full cooperation.

• Culmination certificates for those graduates may be picked up at school from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., June 9 - 12, 2023 or on July 30, 2023 in the main office. Students will also be asked to return gowns when picking this up.

Tickets & Balloons

• Each student will be given ten (10) tickets for the ceremony. Graduating students do not need tickets.

• NO balloons allowed in the auditorium as a courtesy to all guests. Balloons may be left outside the auditorium, in the foyer, at your own risk; we will not be able to monitor the balloons.

The ceremony will conclude after approximately 45 min to 1 hour. Students may leave with a parent or guardian at the conclusion of the ceremony.
