STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Election Project
The 6th grade GT classes, along with 3rd graders at Davenport and 4th and 5th graders at Miller, have been working on an election project for the past few weeks. Students were given a choice board of topics to cover including: “Meet the Candidate” for any presidential or vice presidential candidate, how the electoral college works, or covering the candidates’ stances an important issue in this year’s election. They also got to choose the format of the project from a video, a slideshow, or an essay. Along the way, they learned about researching, evaluating sources (and their own work) for bias, how the electoral college system works, interpreting polling data, and more. On Election Day, they’ll all get to vote for the candidate who best represents them! Below are some examples of their work:

Mock Election
On Election Day, Mr. Goodwin’s homeroom took to the election booths to vote for their favorites. In the category of “Favorite Candy Bar,” Kit-Kat won by a narrow margin. In a very close vote, Ice Cream was elected as “Favorite Night Time Snack.” And finally, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” was chosen as best book series” after a hard-fought campaign against “The Babysitters Club” and “Harry Potter.”

Noche Latina Virtual
This past Thursday, October 29th the 5th Noche Latina event took place virtually. More than 20 families attended this educational night. Bilingual Coordinators Jenny Dilks , Paola Florido and families experienced an interactive presentation where they learned about all the information that the School District has been sending to all families since September. Information was condensed and explained in Spanish with opportunities for parents to ask questions and express concerns. This presentation is now published as a resource in the Recursos para Padres website for all Hispanic parents to access. The Education Association of EHT sponsored free pizzas for all families that attended. Please find some pictures of the event and a link to the website.
