A Note From The Principal
Welcome Back!
Hi! My name is Michelle Auger and I am the new Principal of Naples Park Elementary. I am honored and excited to have been chosen to help lead NPE, and I hope all of you will stop by and say hi. I have spent the last 32 years in New Hampshire as a teacher and administrator, but what I am most proud of is my role as a student advocate. I make every decision based upon how it will affect students. I believe it is important to learn from our mistakes and hope to continue to be a living example of this every day. I will encourage every student each day, and let them know they are valued and have a special place in our school community. I believe that “What you do today makes a difference tomorrow” and I hope that this saying’s meaning is something every student learns to truly understand.
I hope you have all had a wonderful summer. I also hope you and your children are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.
All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team is busy behind the scenes getting paperwork ready to send home. Our hard working and conscientious facilities staff has spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the school. And, our much-appreciated PTO is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer some exciting events and programs. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goal of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.
STUDENT PLACEMENT
Please join us for this Monday’s Meet the Teacher from 8:00-9:30 AM. Students and families can meet teachers and check out their classrooms during this time. A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2019-2020 school year. Careful consideration was given to input from staff as well as student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities.
Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff work hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. Naples Park is eagerly looking forward to enriching your child’s life. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher.
Thank you to all who are helping prepare for the new school year. Your commitment to insuring that NPE remains a celebrated and successful school is awe-inspiring. I eagerly look forward to meeting students and families. It is an honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children.
PBIS NEWS
It is time to celebrate! NPE has recently been recognized for our work implementing a school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) framework. PBIS is a set of strategies based in behavioral and biomedical science that enhances student quality of life and reduces problem behaviors. National research shows that full implementation of this framework leads to improved student outcomes. By establishing this framework, we are developing student skills, making changes to the school environment, acknowledging appropriate student behavior, and using data to identify needed supports for our students. As a result of this work, we are being recognized by the FLPBIS Project for achieving Gold PBIS Model School status! This award demonstrates our commitment to positive and equitable outcomes for all students and helps us celebrate our efforts as we progress toward full implementation of PBIS.
FACILITIES UPDATE
This summer we have had maintenance staff working hard to take the sand out of our playground areas and replace it with mulch. This task got a little harder when they encountered some tortoises. They were safely relocated and the work continued just a little behind schedule. We think that the mulch is a safer and cleaner alternative to the sand on our playgrounds and we are sure our students will love it.
Warmest Regards,
Michelle AugerPrincipal
