From the Principal's Desk...

Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are well into the final weeks of school. It’s clear that Spring is here, and soon it will be locust season. I find it interesting that none of our students have ever lived through the 17-year locust cycle. It will be very interesting by the time we have Field Day to see their reactions. This also reminds me that there are many seasons, cycles and repeated experiences that we all live through.

This week our 8th grade students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. This, too, is an essential experience that we go through as Catholics. In this Sacrament, we are all reminded of the very real Gifts that are given to us; Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, Fear/Love of God. These gifts are not just theological nor are they theoretical; they are real.

We believe and we pray for our students that these gifts will translate into actions. The second reading for this Sunday (1 JN 3:18) reminds us, “Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.” We believe that God gives us gifts so that we may be able to live out our Mission; to be heralds of God’s love in the world. We all know that there is a significant difference between saying we love someone and choosing to act in such a way that it is clear that we do love them.

I have been privileged to witness the many ways in which you demonstrate your love for your daughters and sons. I have seen the commitment that you have for St. John the Baptist School and for our three parishes. I experience through your daughters and sons the power of this kind of love.

As this school year winds down, may we all continue to give witness to this love that Jesus calls us all to share. May we model for our children, our families, our neighbors the gifts of the Holy Spirit. May we heed the Lord’s words to us each day; let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.

Soles for Souls Shoe Drive

Our amazing and generous Blue Jay families have done it once again!! Box upon box of gently used shoes were collected for the Aubrey Rose Foundation “Soles to Souls” shoe drive. One of our eighth grade students organized the drive at St. John's for her Confirmation service project.

Thank you for your generous donations to help those in need.

Preschool Parking Lane

Please be aware that the car rider pick up lane closest to the building is for the 2:45 pm preschool pick up only. Shopping Cents

Our BONUS INCENTIVE is back again this week! For every $25 of orders turned in on Thursday, April 29, you will receive an entry to win a $25 generic Shopping Cent$ gift certificate.

Mother's Day is right around the corner and we have lots of great options for moms - Target, Olive Garden, Marshall's, Kohl's, Starbucks, Panera, Lowe's, Home Depot, Amazon and many more! Your order won't cost you anything more than what you would normally spend at stores and restaurants and you are earning money for our school.

***We are still in need of VOLUNTEERS to help sell gift cards before and after weekend masses (4:30 and 11:00). It takes less than one hour a month and is an easy way to help the school. Less than half of our current volunteers have kids at our school - the rest are parishioners who have been helping for years, some ready to step down. Please consider getting involved and helping out. Contact Amy Roetting at for more information.

Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day last week, Ms. Witzgall's second graders made tree brochures about the three "R"s...reduce, reuse, and recycle. Also, kindergarten students decided to clean up the playground by picking up trash.

Disney's Aladdin Jr.

Congratulations to our Performing Arts Cast and Stage Crew for an amazing and exciting weekend of performances! Thank you to the Director, Amy Eyers, and her assistant, Jessica Flamm, whom without their passion and dedication, we would not have this valuable program to offer our students.
