From the Principal's Desk...
Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are well into the final weeks of school. It’s clear that Spring is here, and soon it will be locust season. I find it interesting that none of our students have ever lived through the 17-year locust cycle. It will be very interesting by the time we have Field Day to see their reactions. This also reminds me that there are many seasons, cycles and repeated experiences that we all live through.
This week our 8th grade students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. This, too, is an essential experience that we go through as Catholics. In this Sacrament, we are all reminded of the very real Gifts that are given to us; Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, Fear/Love of God. These gifts are not just theological nor are they theoretical; they are real.
We believe and we pray for our students that these gifts will translate into actions. The second reading for this Sunday (1 JN 3:18) reminds us, “Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.” We believe that God gives us gifts so that we may be able to live out our Mission; to be heralds of God’s love in the world. We all know that there is a significant difference between saying we love someone and choosing to act in such a way that it is clear that we do love them.
I have been privileged to witness the many ways in which you demonstrate your love for your daughters and sons. I have seen the commitment that you have for St. John the Baptist School and for our three parishes. I experience through your daughters and sons the power of this kind of love.
As this school year winds down, may we all continue to give witness to this love that Jesus calls us all to share. May we model for our children, our families, our neighbors the gifts of the Holy Spirit. May we heed the Lord’s words to us each day; let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.
Peace,
Dan Minelli
