See you real soon!
Hello! Summer has been a blast! One of the highlights was the Blues winning The Stanley Cup & the amazing parade! I hope you and your children are having a wonderful summer filled with relaxation and fun. I look forward to seeing a re-charged group of students on the first day of school: Tuesday, August 13.
We’ve had some changes over the summer with staff. We added a fifth kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Robin Brown. We hired a fourth-grade teacher, Mr. Brian Hudson. Lindsey Morrow is joining our staff as one of our three speech-language therapists. Our new English Language Learners teacher is Nicole Beery. For our sixth-grade Read 180 teacher, we welcome Laura Mueller. We also have hired two special education instructional assistants, Mrs. Casi Marsh, and Mrs. Maureen Loucks. In our cafeteria, our new manager is Mrs. Jennifer Nussbaumer. We also welcome Mrs. Tina Meyer to our school as our Student Support Interventionist. Please help me to welcome our new staff!
Please see the attached school supply lists. The WSD school supply lists also indicate there may be additional items, up to $10, per each grade level. I have included those as well.
Please tell your children hello and we look forward to seeing them really soon!
Mr. Damian Fay
Ready for a great year!!!
I hope you're enjoying a fabulous summer! I've been spending lots of time with family and friends. My family stayed close to home this summer. We took in all the sights and sounds of St. Louis on our "staycation!" While my summer has been restful, I am ready to get this school year started.
The custodians have been working very hard getting our building looking beautiful! Teacher teams have been meeting. Mr. Fay and I have been planning for the year ahead and are certain it's going to be a great one. As Mr. Fay said, we have several new staff, and we are excited to welcome them to our Corgi family. We are all anxious to see the students and their families at Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, August 8.
Our Building theme this year is Beat Yesterday. We will be encouraging our students to set goals, both large and small. They will learn to be reflective thinkers, and through discussions in class, with teachers and other staff members, students will make a plan to reach their goals while focusing on making each day better than the day before. Our hope is to motivate students and help them develop determination and perseverance.
Our Reading theme this year is Bookopoly. Mrs. Smith has created a game board reading log specific for each grade levels' reading expectations. Reading logs will be turned in quarterly, not monthly as in the past. Be on the lookout for your child's first-quarter reading log to come home shortly after the start of the year. Bookopoly t-shirts will also be available for
purchase. More information coming soon.
I hope you enjoy what remains of Summer Break!
Looking forward to an amazing school year!
Take care and see you soon-
Mrs. Kristen Henson
Changes for Dismissal--Please Read Carefully
You will receive this letter at Meet the Teacher Night or sent home on the first day of school:
Hello! In an effort to improve our dismissal procedures, we are changing dismissal for our front entrance/exit. Instead of dismissing from the front patio/flag pole area, we are going to dismiss from the gym. Basically, we are going to do it just like we do for rainy day dismissals; there are several reasons for the change. The number one reason is that it provides a safer dismissal with greater accountability for our students’ safety. In addition, we will no longer have to worry about watching the weather to determine if we should do a normal dismissal or a rainy day dismissal.
All of our car riders, daycare van riders, and parent-walk-up students will go to the gym at the end of the day. Once in the gym, a staff member will call students’ names over the radio for them to come out to meet their vehicle. A staff member will escort students to each car.
For those parents who walk up to get their children, you will need to remain outside on the sidewalk next to the front patio. A staff member will call students’ names over the radio for them to come out to meet their parents. There will be a coned off area for you all to gather.
This is all being done in an effort to improve our dismissal procedures by creating a system that will ensure our students are being released to the appropriate family members. Please take the time to fill out two of the attached orange documents for you to use in your cars and for when you walk up to the building to pick your child up at dismissal. If you drive through the car lanes, please have the orange document on your dashboard where we can see the names of your students. If you decide to park and walk up, then you must bring the orange form with you as well. If you do not have the form, we will have to check your ID, radio the office, and wait for them to clear you before we can call your child out. As you can imagine, this will slow down the process for everyone.
A few other things to keep in mind with this new process: Please remember, we do not accept dismissal changes after 3:00 PM. Also, our primary focus is student safety and 3:20 is a critical time when children can potentially get lost in the shuffle; it is imperative that we streamline the secretaries’ time to focus only on emergencies that arise. With that in mind, please understand that we will not permit access to the office after 3:20 to check out a student. Please plan accordingly so we aren’t caught in the position to have to tell you no. Also, remember that you are responsible for calling in to change if your walker will become a car rider during the days with inclement weather. We will no longer be sending a text about rainy day dismissals.
We will begin with these new procedures on the first day of school, August 13. At Meet the Teacher Night you will pick up the forms to use in your car and for parent walk up.
Please know I truly care about each of your children and want safety to always be on the forefront. These new procedures will help us to ensure the safety of all students. If you have any questions or thoughts, please let me know.
