November 2021
Message from the Principal
In the month of November, we always think about showing gratitude & expressing our thankfulness to others. A few things I am thankful for:
- Thank you to our partners at the Mammoth Site for putting on a wonderful Fossil Fright Night on Oct 28 for our families and the community.
- Thank you to all our Veterans and their service to our country. What a wonderful program that was put on by our 3rd-5th grade students on November 11, 2021.
- Thank you to all our families for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend Parent Teacher Conferences in October. It was delightful to have our families in our building again and seeing what is going on.
- Thank you to the parent group who was able to help with our Family Friendly Walk-through on October 21. Once I receive that report, I will be sharing it at an upcoming Coffee with the Principal.
- Thank you to all the parents who continue to take time and answer the many surveys that have gone out this school year. Your input is helping us to make improvements in the years to come with our school.
- Thank you to our wonderful teachers and students who show up everyday to Work, Learn, Achieve, and Celebrate!
Mrs. Karn

Learning at Home Challenge Did you know that Hot Springs Schools has a few websites where students can continue to practice skills at home? I am challenging students to get on the following websites and continue to learn between now and through January 3. For every 30 minutes they spend, their name will be put into a drawing for chamber bucks. Students can log-in using their Clever badges and if you are need of your student's clever badge, please reach out to their classroom teacher. Prek-2- Waterford Reading 2nd-5th- IXL Reading or Math | Counselor NewsThis month we are celebrating college and career month. Students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade are learning about different careers after high school. During lessons, college is defined as any post-secondary education. In fourth grade students discussed the various types of education required for a variety of careers. We talked about how mechanics may go to a college for school or work for a shop that trains them through an apprenticeship to gain a certification. Some careers require advanced education, such as school counseling which requires a master's degree in the state of South Dakota. Other careers, like farmers and ranchers, may have many career paths. For example, a rancher may learn their trade on the job or choose to go to school to gain training in finances, mechanics, computer science, veterinary science, or many other specialties. Talk to your children about their dreams. All careers start with reading and mathematics skills in elementary school. Social skills are also important in all careers. https://app.nearpod.com/?pin=xs62w https://app.nearpod.com/?pin=J7LBH | Message from the Nurse
