May/June 2022
Superintendent's message
The end of the 2021-2022 school year is here. When we arrive at school in August for the beginning of a new school year, June, the end of the school year, is hard to comprehend. There is so much ahead of every student that the focus tends to be on the next event, the next assignment, the next test. Then you look up, and it is June and another school year has passed us by.
Time is relentless and it is important for all of us to pause and reflect on the past year. Before we know it, it will be August again and we will begin another school year. Before that happens we need to celebrate 2021-2022. There have been challenges (there always will be), but given that, it has been a great year overall and the staff and students of all Avon Lake Schools need to be proud of their accomplishments.
We especially need to celebrate our graduates. Thirteen years ago a group of five-year-olds walked into Kindergarten at the four Avon Lake Elementary Schools. On June 3rd the 318 members of the Class of 2022 take the stage one last time to receive their diplomas.
Commencement marks a starting point for the rest of these young men and women’s lives. Whether they are heading to college, the military, or the workforce we need to applaud their accomplishments to this point and wish them all the success possible in the future. The Class of 2022 has faced many uncertainties in the last few years and we can be proud of how they have persevered to reach this point.
Like our graduates, our students from Kindergarten through eleventh grade have had a wonderful year. Their dedication and hard work has been impressive. As impressive as the effort our students make every day is the support that they receive from staff, families and the Avon Lake community. Avon Lake Schools provide outstanding educational opportunities for all students year after year after year. This happens because we are doing it together.
I can never say 'thank you' enough to all of our stakeholders. So many give so much. Again, thank you to everyone for their support. Remember to celebrate today and the 2021-2022 school year!
The 2022 – 2023 school year will be here in a blink!
- Bob Scott

Special Olympics
Congratulations to the more than 30 students from throughout our district who participated in the annual Lorain County Special Olympics held May 13 at Ely Stadium in Elyria. The students competed in a variety of field activities. Thank you to our staff and families for their support at the event.
Spreading kindness
Foodservice employee Tammie Johnson at Troy writes inspirational notes on the bananas and if you get the one that says "See the lunch lady," you get a free snack!
A district social media post was picked up by WEWS TV 5 and Mrs. Johnson was featured in a news story this week. To watch, click here. She is also a district bus driver.

Community Service
Avon Lake High School juniors and seniors participated in an optional WE Serve Day of community service May 18.
“It’s important for our students to see different experiences and give back,” said Krystine Frisch, ALHS teacher and a WE Serve Day organizer. “We had students helping at the library, tutoring English, as well as a variety of landscaping projects and other opportunities as needed by the various organizations participating. We hope to expand this day of service for all our students in the future.”

Complete Back-to-School forms this summer
Over the summer months families will receive an email notifying you to complete your student's back-to-school forms via your PowerSchool Parent Account. All forms are to be completed prior to the first day of school. This is a one-stop shop for updating your child’s emergency and medical information as well as signing off on the annual permission forms for school district policies.
Once you have completed your forms, you have the opportunity to print a copy of your submission for your records. You will also have the opportunity to print your Emergency Medical Form throughout the year for use on field trips, sports, band, extracurricular activities, etc.
If you have more than one child in the school system, you only need one PowerSchool Parent Account. All of your children, regardless of building attendance, are to be added to your one account BEFORE you start completing the back-to-school forms.
If you have any questions about your PowerSchool Parent Account, please contact:
