Great Start
Happy Friday HES families! Our staff would like to thank all of you for helping get the school year off to an amazing start! We look forward to a rewarding and fantastic school year! Thank you for allowing us to be partners with you as your child begins his/her journey this year.
Communication from our office will typically be in electronic form. We may generate some notes for your child's Friday folders, but in most cases, you will see this newsletter in your email inbox and posted on our school's Facebook and Twitter pages. You should receive this email as long as you provided an email address when you registered your child. If you do not receive this letter as an email, please let the office know so we can add you to our list.
We would like to welcome Mrs. Laura McCarter to our building as our new administrative assistant. Mrs. McCarter worked in our building last year as our office assistant so she knows many of the faces of our 311 students, however, she may not recognize all of our parents and grandparents. Please consider this as you are coming to school to sign your child in or out. You may be asked your name and/or to present identification to help ensure all student safety. Thank you for your patience as we continue to refine our safety practices and as we welcome Mrs. McCarter!
School doors open at 7:30 for all students. Class begins at 7:50. Any students arriving after 8:00 will be considered tardy and must be signed in at the office.
A consistent after-school routine for your child helps our office staff, teachers, and bus drivers. If your child's after-school transportation needs to change, please send a note with your child in the morning or inform the office prior to 12:00 PM. This allows us ample time to make sure teachers can note the change and help your child find the appropriate bus or pick-up spot. The office also needs to know if an adult other than the one(s) listed on your child's contact form will be picking up your child. Our students' safety is a top priority. Thank you for working with us to ensure the safety of each and every student.
Please be advised that if a student tells any staff member that he/she needs breakfast, lunch, or an extra milk, we will allow for them to eat or have extra milk. Many parents are surprised to see that first lunch account balance statement! We won't deny any child who says that he/she is hungry so if your child doesn't need a school meal or extra milk, please talk with him/her prior to coming to school in the morning.
Your parent portal account on Infinite Campus now comes equipped with automatic bill pay for student fees, breakfast and lunch accounts. Now you can pay those lunch bills without sending that check each week! There is a $2.00 convenience fee associated with payments.
If you have any questions about our school or procedures, please contact our office at 573 486-3197. Again, we look forward to working with you and your child this year!
Healthy Snack and Treats
The Gasconade County R-I School District will continue to comply with the regulations set forth under The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act per board policy. Under this policy, schools must have "standards for all foods and beverages provided to students during the school day...Foods provided to students include foods used in celebrations or classroom parties and foods used as a reward."
What does this mean for students and teachers at HES?
- Students are asked to provide healthy snacks in single serving packages.
- Non-food items like pencils, stickers, etc. will also be encouraged.
- Students are asked not to bring cupcakes, cookies, ice cream sandwiches, juice boxes, candy, donuts, etc. for parties or birthday treats. If a student brings any of the above mentions snacks, they will be held in the office for parent pick-up.
- Candy, root beer floats, ice cream, etc. cannot be given to students as a reward by teachers or staff.
- The elementary staff will choose 5 days for "free food days." These days typically center around our school-wide parties and special events.
A list of acceptable snacks can be found here. These snacks in single servings (typically 8 oz. or less) include:
- Planters Sunflower Seeds
- Baked Lays Chips
- Sunchips
- Snyder's Pretzels
- Fig Newtons
- Granola Bars
- Go-gurts
- Cheese Sticks
- Popcorn
- Animal Crackers
- Gold Fish Crackers
- Peanut M&M's (in small bags, peanuts are ok!)
