A Message from the TCES Music Program
The Trace Crossings Music room is looking for musical families to assist with preparing our ukuleles for our fifth graders. We have 25 ukuleles ready to be tuned. Each instrument should be played and well-loved for a few days in order to hold its tune. If your family is interested in checking out a ukulele to keep at home and play for one week, please contact Mrs. Latham at llatham@hoover.k12.al.us.
The students at Trace Crossings will be preparing for Veterans Day in the month of October. If you have a family member who is a veteran or currently serving, we would love to hear from you as we prepare. Watch for details on how you can honor your veteran by creating a star to be displayed.
Physical Education Announcements
Mercedes Marathon
Mercedes Kids Marathon registration is now open. You may register your child online using the following link. https://www.mercedesmarathon.com/ The last day to register is November 15th. Make sure to indicate your child attends Trace Crossings. Race officials will send an email to the school of registered students. Students who have registered are eligible to come into the gym at 7:10 am to 7:30 am starting Friday, November 15th to practice. Students will practice in the gym or outside (weather permitting) on the sidewalk that surrounds the playground. Students run weekly during PE class and achieve the required 25.2 miles needed before running the last mile at Railroad Park on Saturday, February 15th . Mrs. Culberson recommends that students run outside of the school day to ensure they have the knowledge and ability to run a mile (running in a small circle is very different than running at Railroad Park). A mileage form sheet may be printed from the race website to keep at home to record your child's miles, but it is not required. If you have any questions please email mculberson@hoover.k12.al.us
Physical Fitness Testing (Tennis Shoes are highly recommended) Fitness Testing (8 years old through 12 years old) Beginning October 8th Mrs. Culberson and Coach Miller will be administering the state-required Alabama Physical Fitness Assessment (APFA) to students 8 years old to 12 years old. This assessment includes concepts that encourage achievement of personal physical fitness as well as an appreciation for wellness both in and outside the school setting. Each student will be tested according to the following assessment components and test items: Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance – (PACER) Test Muscular Strength/Endurance – 90-Degree Push-Up and Abdominal Strength/Endurance – Partial Curl-Up Flexibility – Back-Saver Sit-and-Reach Assessment is an integral part of the physical education curriculum. If your child has a documented medical condition on record with the school nurse they will be excused. If you have any questions you may contact me at mculberson@hoover.k12.al.us
