PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Our weather is changing daily so please be sure that children have proper clothing for AM and PM recesses. Some mornings are chilly and a sweatshirt is needed, but the afternoon is warm so nothing extra is necessary. Along those same lines, please be sure to have your child keep track of their clothing items. We already have a couple of items in our lost and found.
REMINDERS:
Microwave use at lunch -- Please be sure the food is in a microwave safe container. A plastic bag doesn't work well in the microwave. Also please be sure you have included a note stating how long the food should be warmed for. We don't want to warm it too long. Lastly, there are multiple students that need to use the microwave so please limit the time needed to warm items. A minute should be the maximum time needed. This helps to ensure that everyone has time to eat their lunch after getting their food warmed. Thanks for your help with this.
SeeSaw -- This is a new communication tool that we are using school-wide. Teachers and students will be posting activities here for families to see. This tool will allow a much greater level of communication to all families to see more often the work and activities happening at school in a more timely manner. See your child's teacher if you have not gotten signed up. A lot is being posted already. Don't miss out!
Parking -- Please do not park along the curb near the front of the building any time you need to come into school. This is for everyone's safety. Use the parking spots in either lot when you need to come into the building. Thanks for helping us all stay safe.
Please be sure that you are communicating with your child's teacher about any questions you have. Ask about classwork or behavior...stay informed. We are here to work together to educate your child.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.

School Counseling
I hope that the first week of school went great for everyone!
I will be working with all students in a variety of ways. All 4k, first, and second graders see me twice a week, kindergarteners three times a week, and third through fifth graders see me once a week for guidance class. I also will be working with some students individually and in small groups.
Groups and individual sessions are all voluntary and offered to all students. These services are provided for your child so they can have the opportunity to address concerns, so these concerns do not get in the way of their learning. All counseling is confidential except if I suspect or a child reports abuse, neglect, or endangerment.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work with your child(ren). Feel free to contact me at (920) 826-5819 or patrice.fick@of-ps.org if you have any questions or concerns, or for any reason you do not want me working with your child(ren).
Keyboarding
Greetings from Computer Skills! The school year is off to a great start! Here is one huge change: Students in Grades 3 through 5 each received a Chromebook with a touch screen to use at school. Those in Grade 2 share a Chromebook with another student. The students are having fun as they learn various ways to use the new technology. Additionally, we have a new online typing program called Edutyping. This program contains many lessons and activities, and I can also add customized exercises for them. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for encouraging your children in their learning.

Community and District News
Oconto County Public Health will visit Abrams Elementary School on Monday 10/14/19 to offer FREE flu shots to all students in Early Childhood (EC)-5th grade.
If your child did not bring the consent forms home for the FREE flu shots, go to www.ocph.info to download a form and find more information on the flu shot.
CDC recommends a flu shot for everyone 6 months and older. Flu is not just a bad cold; it’s a serious illness that can lead to pneumonia and other complications. The symptoms can last for up to two weeks and include: fever, cough, sore throat, headache, severe body aches, chills, runny or stuffy nose, extreme exhaustion, and sometimes in children diarrhea and vomiting. While your child may be nervous to receive a shot at school, Oconto County Public Health staff will work together to make your child as comfortable as possible.
Getting the flu shot every year is your best protection against the flu! You can also stay healthy by washing your hands frequently, covering your cough and staying home when you are sick. Please call Oconto County Public Health with questions at 920-834-7000.
