SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)
During the first few weeks of school, all staff and students explicitly teach and model expected behavior using the school-wide positive behavior system, Go CATS! During the second week, we reviewed “Stay Safe” and focused lessons on the "T" for "Take Responsibility." Students who were wow-ing us with Take Responsibility behaviors earned Cat Cash, which can be used towards classroom-specific and whole-school rewards. Learn more about Go CATS! and SWPBS from your child, your child’s teacher, the EV webpage, EV social media accounts, and at Back to School Nights.
Stay tuned for more SWPBS and Responsive Classroom news each week.
MORE SUPPORTS AT EV
OJRSD supports EV as we continue to implement SWPBS. When a student demonstrates difficulty following tier 1 expectations of Go CATS, we determine the root cause of the behavior and respond with supports at the tiers 2 and 3 levels. What does this mean and what does it look like?
When a student does not follow behavior expectations, there is a disciplinary consequence. Depending on the behavior, the intervention and possible consequence may take place with the teacher; however, if a behavior is considered a level 2 or level 3 behavior per the Elementary Student/Parent Handbook, then Ms. Seeley responds with discipline such as detentions and suspensions and tiers 2 and 3 supports take place.
Who delivers the tiers 2 and 3 supports?
We have two full-time staff: Mrs. Quinn, school counselor, and Miss Jen, licensed school social worker. We added or continued part-time staff: Ms. Driscoll, Mrs. Benzing, Mrs. Morgan, and Ms. Gimbel, all of whom specialize in counseling in mental health and/or behaviors. We also have our five special education case managers, Mrs. Sharrer, Mrs. Grant, Mrs. Overland, Mrs. Capra, and Mrs. Black, who regularly teach social skills with groups and individuals.
Stay tuned to learn about the staff who support our students in upcoming Staff Spotlights.
