A Message from the Superintendent
If you haven't completed our LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) survey yet, please do so today. Your input shapes our annual goals and the actions we take to support all students. The LCAP is evaluated every year and updated to reflect current needs. Students, parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff can contribute by completing the LCAP Survey Spring 2023 here. The survey will be open for the entire month of March. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete it.
ALVORD LAUNCHES YEAR-ROUND MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS PROGRAM
We are excited to have launched our new middle school sports program this semester. In addition to improved physical health, practicing and playing sports play a positive role in supporting youth development, leading to improved academic achievement, fewer behavioral problems, better psychosocial health and positive overall development, and more. Middle school students can participate in team sports and skill-based athletic training year-round after school. We kicked off our new program with flag football. Our football clinics, tryouts and practices over the past few weeks resulted in our first competitive team games on Friday. Families, friends and staff came out to cheer on students as Wells played against Villegas and Arizona played against Loma Vista. Congratulations to our winning teams, Arizona and Villegas, and all of our participating student athletes, their coaches and athletic directors for their outstanding game play and effort. Thank you to all of our families who came out to support our students!
We look forward to middle school soccer as soon as we return from Spring Break. Interested students can obtain soccer registration paperwork in their school’s main office. Paperwork is due this Thursday, March 23. Starting this coming school year, the middle school program will be year-round with competitive team sports and clinics for all students to build their skills. We expect to grow this program over time as we improve our fields of play with support of Measure J.
Like our sports education program, our music education program improves motivation, self-confidence, and overall achievement in students. We are committed to support school day and extra-curricular opportunities for our students so that they can explore their talents and make connections with fellow students and staff. I encourage parents to encourage their students to participate in the arts, athletics, leadership, and other opportunities that we offer.

SCHOOL SAFETY WEEKLY UPDATE
The process of setting up a project schedule based on our Measure J priorities is underway as we turn our attention to the process of transitioning from project planning to construction. Priority number one is safety, and safety extends well beyond external threats. It includes environmental threats and other components of our safe school plans, including architectural solutions to building positive school cultures.
Among the first steps in transitioning from planning to construction is approving our Citizen's Bond Advisory Committee (CBOC) at our upcoming Board meeting. Thank you to all the applicants. You can expect to be contacted during the week of March 27. Stay current with all Measure J projects by joining the ParentSquare Community Group titled, Measure J Project Updates.
