Here to celebrate our authentic selves!

Weekly Updates: 5/8

Happy Friday Families!

We’ve had a fun week with the kiddos and hope they have shared the same!

Updates:

  • We have completed all the STAAR tests!!! Woohoo!!

  • Multiplication Facts: At this point it is important for our students to practice their multiplication facts at home on a daily basis for a few minutes, if they don’t want to be behind for next year. It is important that they understand that multiplication facts are fact families with division.

  • We are doing great on snacks! Thank you for helping out.

  • We need to raise awareness about the importance of having an organized and safe dismissal in our 3rd graders. Please, help us to remember the expectations during dismissal (follow directions of the teacher on duty, say “good-bye” to your teacher before leaving, don’t play around, etc.)

Content we are getting into next week:

  • ELA/SS: Writing mystery. Problem solving in current events.

  • SLA: Message/Inferences

  • Science: Ecosystems

  • Math: Data

Let us know if there is anything we can do to support you or help next week go smoothly.

Happy Friday Families!

We’ve had a fun week with the kiddos and hope they have shared the same!

Updates:

  • Students will take the STAAR test next Thursday, 4th of May (Math).

  • Some reminders and tips for the test:

  • The test will be online (using a platform similar to School City and MAP Growth), but students can use scratch paper and dictionaries.

  • It will take the whole school day. That means that those days students won't have PE and GLAM. Obviously, they will have their 30 minutes of lunchtime and two snack breaks, apart from other brain breaks during the test.

  • Time management is critical as well as the use of the learned strategies (please, refer to the Home Guide we sent by email in the beginning of this year). Fortunately this test is shorter (around 32 questions), and nobody will probably struggle with time. What is really important is to remind your child the use of UPSC (our problem-solving method), and show their work when they take the test.

  • At this time, students should know multiplication facts (time tables) by heart fluently. If it’s not happening, please help us to have them reviewing them for, at least, 10 minutes per day.

  • These days we'll be training some mindfulness, yoga and other relaxation exercises and stretches they can do anytime during the test, if they feel tired, anxious or need a brain break. Feel free to practice something like this at home with your child, if you want.

  • Students should face this test with a winning mentality. They have shown us they have learned a lot along the school year and had great scores. Why should it be different this time? They will do it great again!

  • Students will be having extra or voluntary homework (really short and fast) in order to empower their basic foundations to master 3rd grade level TEKS🙂 and face this exam successfully.

  • Multiplication Facts: At this point it is important for our students to practice their multiplication facts at home on a daily basis for a few minutes (maximum 5), if they don’t want to be behind.

  • Time management: Another thing students need to work hard at home is time management. Please, make sure students finish their homework in the assigned time, as we are doing in the classroom, in order to be well-prepared for the test, which is time sensitive (around 45 questions to be answered in just one school day).

  • Please sign up / donate snacks for our class. (Mr. Pascual’s class)

  • If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please get in touch with the homeroom teacher of your child first to give you context and feedback.

  • We need to raise awareness about the importance of having an organized and safe dismissal in our 3rd graders. Please, help us to remember the expectations during dismissal (follow directions of the teacher on duty, say “good-bye” to your teacher before leaving, don’t play around, etc.) This is not always happening, especially with some students, and it’s truly important we know they leave, if we are busy with other kids or talking with a family in the track/circle drive.

Content we are getting into next week:

  • ELA/SS: Writing fiction. Economics.

  • SLA: Sintetize information

  • Science: Food chains

  • Math: Review for the STAAR test
