Excellence – The Prevailing Attitude
The mission of LEISD and Little Elm High School is to Engage, Equip, and Empower each student to realize their full potential in a culture founded on the highest qualities of character – Excellence, Integrity, Respect, and Compassion. Excellence does not happen by accident. Teachers and students work hard to create habits that turn into an attitude that expects the best. This past week we have celebrated hundreds of students who have cultivated this attitude of excellence. On Monday, May 8th the LEHS Underclassmen Awards Program recognized the following students for their diligence and effort to be the best they can be. Principal’s Awards –
LEADERSHIP AWARD:
Proven leadership ability is a big deal in college admissions and job interviews. Leadership skills and experience is often what sets one applicant apart from all the rest. Students in high school have many opportunities to be involved in clubs, athletics, fine arts, or academic organizations that provide leadership roles where students can learn to lead others. A teacher writes this about our underclassmen leadership award winner: “This student is always looking for ways she can lead. She has held numerous class officer positions, and worked tirelessly to help lead campus activities through Student Council. She is a leader in the classroom, in the hallways, and in the community always representing LEHS in a positive light.”
Melonie Malithong, is our strongest and most promising underclass leader of the pack.
CITIZENSHIP AWARD:
Being a good citizen means being a good person, doing the right thing and doing it respectfully. The person who is received this award displays outstanding character daily. The LEHS Underclassman Citizenship Award is designed to recognize the student that consistently exhibits this kind of behavior.
A teacher writes this about our Citizenship Underclassman Award winner: “This student has made the DECA food drive her mission and is very driven by community service. For the third year she has collected significantly more canned food for the food drive than any other student at the High School. Abigail goes into her neighborhood and promotes the needs of the food bank, and her neighbors are waiting for her to come to collect their donations.”
Abigail Resendiz De La Cruz is our exemplary underclassmen, whose integrity and hard work have earned her the Underclassmen Citizen of the year award.
HEART OF A LOBO AWARD:
The heart of the Lobo is for that student that leads the way whether it is at pep rallies, games or simply walking the hallways within our school. This person gives our school a breath of life, vitality, a conscience of LOBO Pride that no other exhibits.
A teacher writes this about our heart of a lobo Underclassman Award: “Lobos are loud and proud. They always celebrate victories, no matter how large or small. Lobos always seek to do their best and push others to do their best. This student embodies these qualities. She cheers for everyone as they compete. She seeks to encourage and raise the bar of expectations for all of our teams. She is relentless when it comes to showing pride and support for all of our athletics and UIL competitors! She is a great example of what a Lobo should be.
The winner of Little Elm High School’s Underclassman Heart of a Lobo award is Cassidy James.
On Friday, May 12th, the LEHS Chapter of National Honor Society conducted the induction of the 2017-2018 members. This event was another example of LEHS students striving for excellence and achieving great things in the four pillars of NHS – Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.

Congratulations to all of these young ladies and young men! They are just the latest example of all of the great things going on at LEHS this year. Please encourage and congratulate these Lobos when you see them and tell them to keep up the great work! In the words of Colin Powell, “If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.”

LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL IS GOING GREEN
During this school year, Little Elm High School is wanting to be a part of the “Go Green” Initiative by constructing a campus greenhouse and compost center. The project is being started by LEHS AP Environmental Science students, along with collaborative help from the CTE Department. Our goal is to have this project happen concurrently with the proposed school renovations that will begin taking place this year, and be ready for the 2017-2018 school year. For this plan to be a huge success, we will need all of the help we can get.
