Kinder Hearts

Since Valentine's Day is all about hearts we read aloud a fiction and nonfiction book with hearts in it.

Afterwards, the kinder students participated in exploratory learning stations. All were based on the shape of a heart. They created animals out of hearts, colored and laced heart bookmarks, made tissue hearts and constructed hearts out Legos.

2nd Grade Leaps Into Biography Research

On Leap Year the 2nd graders began their research on biographies. Using the Guided Inquiry Design for research they started out in the Open Stage. The Open Stage consisted of the students watching a short video about Steve Jobs and discussing what it might be like to be famous. They also learned about timelines and created a timeline of their own life. To wrap the session up the students participated in the Explore Stage. They scanned QR codes that took them to the biography section in the online database PebbleGo. In March, the students will conduct their research and create their final product. Stay tuned!

3-D Printer

The library now owns a 3-D printer! The first first thing we printed was a bracelet. The students loved watching it work. It look almost 3 hours to finish and was fascinating. We now own orange and blue spools of filament and are looking forward to trying to print new things.

Spring Book Fair

Our groovy Spring Book Fair was a big success! We are so grateful for all of our fabulous parent volunteers. It would not have been the success it was without them. The profits earned help pay for presenters, story tellers and incentives. Also the monies raised are going towards buying new furniture for the library.

Our next Book Fair will be in the fall and we'd love to have new helpers join us!

Spring Break Reading Challenge!

The week before Spring Break the students will be given their Spring Break Reading Challenge. The challenge is for the students to color in at least 15 shamrocks on the sheet. Each shamrock represents 15 minutes of reading. The prize is a cool bentcil. A photo of it is shown above. We have 50 of the bentcils available, so if we run out the students will be given an alternate prize. Get those forms in quickly!

No forms will be accepted after Friday, March 25th!
