Reading and Writing
Our book clubs have begun and there have been some awesome discussions happening during class. I am so impressed with the thinking that has been happening as it relates to their reading! If you get the chance, ask your student what the THEME of their book club book is. Clubs have set the reading pace. It is the responsibility of each student to make sure they have read the required chapters and are ready to discuss what they have read.
We continue to work on our Narrative stories in writing. This week we worked on transitions, and using flashbacks or flash forwards to enhance our stories. Every day the kids continue to work to make their stories better and better.
The spelling packet and the spelling test will be next Thursday, October 11th.
Have a great weekend!
Math
If your child is struggling with math homework, please have them take a moment to look at our math videos on our webpage. We worked on recording videos that students can use as a resource, as they navigate through fractions this unit.
BizTown
Students learned how people are members of a community in which they live, work, trade, and share. They took a pledge to become citizens of JA BizTown, and that oath required an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. JA BizTown citizens tackled the “circular flow of economic activity” as they examined the movements of goods, services, resources (human, natural, and capital), and money between people and businesses. This concept will be revisited several times over the next few weeks.
Through a series of classroom exercises, students recognized that resources are scarce and that people cannot have everything they want. Decisions must be made about what to produce, how to produce, and for whom to produce. Students also learned that governments play an important role in an economy by providing public goods and services, paid for by taxes.
Finally, students completed their job applications. Students will know by next week what job they will receive at BizTown!
