Chapter 5.3 Indo-European
Each branch has a distinctive spatial distribution.
Romance Branch
Romance languages derived from Latin that was spoken by the Romans 2,000 years ago. When the Roman armies conquered and occupied provinces they brought the Latin language with them.
Germanic Branch
Engilsh is part of the Germanic branch because of the language spoken by Germanic tribes that invaded England 1,500 years ago.
Distribution
The four less extensively used Indo-European branches are Albanian, Armenian, Greek and Celtic.
Orgin
Indo-European is divided into eight branches.
Conquest
Following the collapse of the Roman Empire communication among the former provinces declined.
