Ms. Erickson's Classroom Snippet
Take a Peek into our Week!
January 12th- January 16th
Math: This week we are switching gears from multiplication to division. Students will learn to read division problems and will solve using strategies; such as, grouping, repeated subtraction, an array, and number line.
Reading: We will begin exploring the genre of poetry. We will describe how rhyme, rhythm, and repetition interact to create images in poetry.
Writing: Students will use sensory language to write poetry. They will learn that some words and phrases have literal and nonliteral meaning.
Social Studies: Students will learn the difference of natural and manmade resources. We will talk about the negative and positive effects humans have on the natural environment. Students will also learn about the differences in saltwater and freshwater through a fun experiment and studying the different types of bodies of water.
Sight Words: We are learning the following words this week: begin, close, door, girl, leave, open, slow, upon
Please continue to work with your child to read, write, and spell these words with consistency.

Report Cards
Dear Parents,
Report Cards will be coming home this Thursday. Just to clarify that an "X" on the report card indicates a specific content strand has not been introduced or taught during the second nine weeks.
Also, in the content area of math, the strand “describes length, area, and time”, the concept of area has not been taught during this nine weeks, therefore, the highest grade will be a 2.
Thank you for your understanding regarding these matters.
