March 2022
Superintendent's Message
Dear BUSD Families,
I hope you are all doing well as we enter into March and the beginning of Spring.
On behalf of the Board and myself, we wanted to give a very big thank you to all of our Teachers of the Year.
Julie Clarke from Discovery Bay Elementary
Sandi Worrell from Excelsior Middle School
Bernadette Geer from Timber Point Elementary
Please help me in giving them a round of applause for their handwork and dedication to our students.
As we enter into this season of new beginnings, I wish all of you a wonderful Spring break and hope that you take time over the break to spend time with your families and rejuvenate yourselves.
With BUSD pride,
Reyes Gauna, Ed.D., Superintendent

Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987. The actual celebration of Women’s History Month grew out of a weeklong celebration of women’s contributions organized by the school district of Sonoma, California, in 1978. Presentations were given at dozens of schools, hundreds of students participated in a “Real Woman” essay contest and a parade was held in downtown Santa Rosa.
The 2022 theme is "Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope." This theme is "both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history."

CHOOSE LOVE MOVEMENT
The Choose Love Formula™ is based on the profound result of practicing the character values inherent in “Nurturing Healing Love,” which are:
Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action.
These four character values are easy to learn. When practiced, they strengthen the health and resilience of individuals, improve the community and culture of groups and promote a safer, more peaceful and loving world.
The benefits of teaching SEL in schools are significant; the addition of neuroscience, positive psychology and character education delivered by the no cost Choose Love For Schools™ program has a positive impact in overall school culture and the students’ and educators’ and school staffs’ lives outside of school, too.
