Saving your Canvas Content
Backing up your Canvas courses
Best digital practices tell us to ensure that we back up our content. Below, you will find instructions and links for how to save the content in your Canvas courses for next year. Remember, your students will be reset over the summer. Therefore, if they've submitted documents they'd like to keep, encourage them to save it to their personal flash drives or OneDrive accounts as their laptops will be re-imaged over the summer.
PowerSchool courses will be concluded at the end of the grading term:
- This means that teachers will not have access to do anything to the course (adding assignments, grades, etc.) However, you will be able to copy the concluded course content to your new course(s) for 2017-2018 school year only.
- It is strongly recommended that all teachers back up their course content with a zip file for best practices. Next year, courses will not be available to teachers until mid-August in Canvas. Also, teachers can create courses and export their course information into a zip file and import the zip file back in next year with their new courses (instructions below).
- So please backup all content before the end of the grading term.

FAQs
What about courses I've manually added?
Any manually created courses (such as Sandboxes, etc.) will still remain under your account. You will have access to those courses over the summer as long as an end date has not been assigned to the course. If you are unsure, see the screenshot below of settings from one of my manually-created courses. The screen shown below can be found under Settings > Course Details.
How do I copy course material from one course to another?
This may be helpful if you are looking to consolidate information or edit courses before saving them.
