Spelling Bee

We held our campus spelling bee this morning with 22 third and fourth grade participants. The tension was high and competition was stiff! Congratulations to 1st place winner Christian Rodriguez. He will go on to compete in the MISD Spelling Bee on February 10th. Best of luck to Christian!

Colors for Caring Monday 1/9

On the first Monday of each month in the 2016-17 school year, Mansfield ISD is encouraging the community to wear a color that represents a cancer that affected the life of a loved one.

View a cancer color chart here. (Pink is associated with breast cancer, dark blue is designated for colon cancer, gold is the color for children’s cancers, etc. Not every cancer has a specific color designation, so multicolor or lavender can be worn to recognize those cancers.)

Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas was very grateful for the support he received during his bout with thymoma cancer, so he wants to continue to spread the power of community support through the Colors for Caring initiative he implemented last school term.

Gifted and Talented Screening

The window for evaluating 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade students for the Gifted and Talented program at Willie Brown is coming soon. In order for your child to be referred and screened, submit this completed form to Lisa Eubanks by January 31, 2017. Results of the screening, nomination and selection process will be available after the Selection Committee has met. You may expect a letter notifying you of the results by April 28, 2017. If your child has qualified for GT services in the past, he/she does NOT need to be tested again as they continue to qualify.

If you have further questions about testing, you may contact Lisa Eubanks at 817-299-5867 or at LisaEubanks@misdmail.org. If you have questions about the Gifted and Talented program, you may contact Kim Greig, Brown’s Gifted and Talented Coordinator, at 817-299-5860 or KimberlyGreig@misdmail.org.
