The Cancer Awareness Measures (CAMs)

The Cancer Awareness Measure (CAM) is a validated set of questions designed to reliably assess cancer awareness. It was developed by Cancer Research UK, University College London, King’s College London and University of Oxford in 2007-8.

Since then a number of site specific measures have also been completed and include Breast, Colorectal/Bowel, Cervical, Lung and Ovarian CAMs. The measures were developed with the support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Breast Cancer Care, Cancer Research UK, Ovarian Cancer Action, The Eve Appeal, Ovacome, Target Ovarian Cancer and the Department of Health.

Cancer Symptoms Tool

When cancer's found at an early stage, treatment is often easier and more likely to be successful. So finding cancer sooner rather than later can make a real difference.

Use our tool to find out about the possible warning signs and symptoms of cancer. If you notice any of these, it doesn't mean you definitely have cancer, but it does mean you should get checked out by your doctor. If it is something serious, spotting it at an early stage can make all the difference. Our tool can also help you locate your nearest GP.

As well as knowing what to look out for, knowing what is normal for you and your body is important. If you do, it'll be easier to notice when something's different.
