Week of June 17 - June 21
Growing into our Greatness...Not a Moment to Waste!
Happy Last Week of School!
Important Announcements and Reminders!
Booker Bucks: Our annual Booker Bucks celebration will take place on Thursday, June 20th. We need the support of all team members to ensure that Booker Bucks is a success. We would like to thank those staff who have donated thus far. We are asking that all donations be submitted by Tuesday, June 18th. Ms. Thompson, Mrs. Forrest-Jones and Ms. Pritchett are leading the Booker Bucks committee so please see them with questions or to drop off donations.
PBIS Surveys: All teachers must complete your PBIS surveys by Monday, end of day. In addition, scholars in grades 3-8 must complete the student surveys by Monday, end of day.
Scholar Rostering: All 2019-2020 scholar rostering was due on Friday. If you have not already done so, please submit it by Monday, end of day.
Scholar Technology: Scholar technology will begin being collected on Tuesday, June 18th.
Movies and Films: It is our expectation that movies and films are NOT being shown unless they are directly tied into an instructional text. Scholars should not be watching arbitrary movies as a way to pass time. In addition, it is our expectation that movies/films that are shown, receive approval, ahead of time, by a school administrator. As many of us know, recently the powerful Ava DuVernay film "When They See Us" was released on Netflix. While there are certainly important messages in this film for scholars to see, we must also be mindful of the potential trauma that can accompany exposure to such messages. When the school makes the decision to show these kinds of films, we must give parents a heads up and the ability to have their child opt out of seeing the film. We are kindly asking all team members to refrain from showing this movie until approval has been granted.
Final Staff Meeting: Our final staff meeting of the year will take place on Tuesday, June 18th at 2:15p. This is a 1pm dismissal day so staff will be released to get lunch and then we will begin promptly at 2:15p. While staff meeting are usually on Wednesday, due to our 8th Grade Rites of Passage, the date has been moved up. If there is a conflict, please let Ms. Tyler know.
End of Year Staff Celebration: Our Global Academies, end-of year staff celebration will take place at the Belmont Mansion on Thursday, June 20th from 2-5p. This will be a joint celebration with our GLASW family and all staff are required to be present. This year's theme is "Surfing into Summer" and attire is bright colors/beach accessories. The smile committee is working hard to make this a great event.
CloseOut/Packing: Instead of using boxes like we have in the past, this year we will be distributing clear bins for teachers to use when packing up classrooms. Bins were distributed to some classrooms last week and more will be distributed this week. It is our expectation that all closets are thoroughly cleaned, organized and that all items are clearly labeled. The floors of all closets must be clear so that they can be properly cleaned during the summer.
Special Services: Special Services will be completing close out paperwork, please check with your case managers to make sure they are available before sending scholars to them.
