The Western Leaders Advisory Board serves as the governing board for the Western Leaders organization, and is comprised of eight individuals who serve in the following positions:
- Socials Chair
- Marketing Chair
- Big Red’s Blitz Chair
- Logistics Co-Chair
- M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan Commuter Chair
- Membership Co-Chair
The Advisory Board Chairs/Co-Chairs are responsible for completing tasks in their functional areas, making recommendations to the Board, and voting on decisions that will ultimately shape the Western Leaders organization and the M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan program for the next year’s incoming class. Advisory Board members should have at least one-year Western Leader Experience or Residence Assistant Experience (preferred). While each Chair/Co-Chair is responsible for different aspects of the M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan program, the Board functions as a whole. The Chair/Co-Chair positions complement each other and work together to ensure the success of the program and positive experience of the new students attending M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan.

What is the Time Commitment?
The 2017 Western Leaders Advisory Board position begins TENTATIVELY on October 4, 2016, and ends when the new Advisory Board has been selected and transitioned into their new positions (October 2017). Please note that the start date is subject to change. Listed below are dates and events Western Leaders are required to attend. Specific dates are mentioned where applicable.
- Western Leaders Advisory Board members will be expected to participate in winter (TBD) and summer (May/June) transition and planning retreats.
- Western Leaders Advisory Board members are expected to attend the Southern Regional Orientation Workshop) (March 10th - 12th, 2017, Statesboro, GA – Georgia Southern University).
- Western Leaders Advisory Board members will tentatively return to campus on Monday, August 7th, 2017 to prepare for M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan 2017.
- Participation in training is mandatory.
- Western Leaders Advisory Board members will be scheduled to work specific events during M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan week which will likely require early arrival, before the event is to take place, and staying late, after the event is over.
- Western Leaders Advisory Board members are requested to clear their schedules and refrain from participating in other activities August 11th-18th, due to the training and implementation schedule of the M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan program. Exceptions to this are RARE.
All Advisory Board members are required to serve four (4) office hours each week with the New Student and Parent and Family Programs Coordinator, during which Board members’ one-on-ones will take place, in addition to attending weekly Advisory Board meetings (1-2 hours each). Advisory Board positions require a non-negotiable four (5) hour minimum weekly time commitment.
How do I apply?
Those interested in pursuing an Advisory Board position are required to submit an application and a 250-word essay on the topic provided (see application) by close of business on Tuesday, September 20,2016 by 4:30pm to the office of Housing and Residence Life.
All applications will be processed; applicants will be required to schedule a 15-minute interview with the New Student and Parent and Family Programs Coordinator and current members of the Advisory Board Thursday, September 23 and Monday, September 26 from 5pm -9pm. Selected applicants will be notified by Friday, September 30th. A mandatory Advisory Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 4th at 5:00pm.
