Leadership Weekly
Carroll Magnet Middle School (January 20 - 22)
What do I need to know this week?
Middle School Athletics
Middle School Athletics will resume with our return to in-person learning in mid-February.
Additional Academic Support for Students
Carroll's Instructional Leadership Team is developing a plan that will replace office hours several days per week with additional explicit instructional time. Additionally, we will begin offering tutoring in the afternoons. Please be on the lookout for details in Sunday's weekly.
Accessing my Child's Schedule
Core classes have not changed this semester. However, please note that due to significant shifts in the number of students and staff transitioning between in-person and virtual academy cohorts, many elective schedules have changed for the second semester.
Schedules can be accessed in PowerSchool, which is a Home Base application. All middle and high school students have access to Home Base. Home Base is accessed through each student's WakeID portal. Instructions on how to access these applications can be found here | en espaƱol.
New students to WCPSS will need to request their WakeID from school staff.
Elective Meet Codes
Progress Reports
Families will access progress reports on Friday, January 22 in Empower.
Understanding Empower & Student Pacing
Empower calculates pacing by weighing all of the standards a student is expected to master against the time by which the learning is alloted. For core classes, this means that students have until June 10 to master all academic content, which is determined by North Carolina's Department of Public Instruction. Elective offerings are driven by quarterly or semesterly timelines. A target pace in Empower is determined by the amount of expected mastery divided by the days a student has to master the standards.
Remind me about pacing. (Link)
What can I do to best support my child academically?
- Ensure that your child is attending all classes.
- Review Empower with your child.
- Encourage your child to submit missing assignments.
- Advise your child to leverage teacher feedback to improve assignments and resubmit them for credit.
- Ensure that your child attends teacher office hours to receive personalized support.
- Communicate the partnership you have with your child's teachers - we're in this together.
Clubs
Interested in joining a club this semester? Students may communicate their interest here (http://bit.ly/VirtualCarrollClubs). Please note that in order to complete the form, students must use their WCPSS email accounts. Students will receive a confirmation email from the club sponsor.
