Toiletries for Homeless Teens Drive

Hats off to the CMS student council for sponsoring a toiletry drive for homeless teens. Over 100 items were donated to Outreach Hope! Thank you CMS students who participated!

CMS Winter Dance Friday, Dec. 7: 3:00-4:30 p.m.

The CMS PBIS committee is hosting a winter dance this Friday from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 real cash or $3 real cash and 10 CORE cash bucks. Tickets will be sold this week during lunch. Students staying for the dance will remain after school. All students will need picked up near door #1 at the conclusion of the dance. Students can request songs for the dance by fillling out the form below.

NWEA Testing the week of Dec. 10th

Students will be participating in the "Middle of the Year" NWEA benchmark testing beginning Monday, Dec. 10. Language arts testing will begin on Monday (finish on Tuesday if needed) and Mathematics testing will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 13 (finish on Thursday if needed). Students will test throught their language arts and math blocks on those days. Please try to schedule all appointments around those important testing times.

Sonny Day Community Center

The Warren Township Council of PTSs runs this pantry that provides food, toiletries, cleaning products, school supplies and gently used clothing to families of Warren Township students.

Parents/guardians need to get a signed letter from the school to go to Sonny Day. Please contact Mrs. Jones, school counselor, at 317-532-6800 ext. 6817.

Fall Sports Update

The 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams picked up wins this past week against Tindley on Monday. 7th grade won 58-16 and 8th grade won 70-11. 7th grade also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Marion County Tournament with a 29-25 win on Thursday over Lynhurst. They will play Guion Creek on Saturday morning at 9 am at Lynhurst. If they win, they will play the winner of Belzer and Southport later that day for a chance to play in the Marion County Championship on Monday evening. 8th grade lost their first game of the year on Thursday to Lynhurst by a score of 33-29.

Wrestling practice started this week. They will continue to practice Monday through Thursdays until 5 pm before winter break. After winter break, practices will be everyday after school until 5 pm. If you are planning on participating in wrestling, you must start practicing at some point before winter break.

7th and 8th grade girls basketball tryouts will take place on Tuesday (12/4) and Thursday (12/6). Teams will be posted on Friday morning. Pre-winter break practice times will be discussed after the teams are selected. Be sure to have a physical on file if you are planning on trying out next week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the athletic office. 317-532-6808.

Track pre-season conditioning will be on Tuesdays every week. It will be after school until 4:30 pm. Athletes staying for conditioning will be expected to ride the activity bus home on those nights. You must have a physical on file with Mr. Treesh if you are planning to stay for conditioning. Questions may be directed to Mr. Treesh, Athletic Director, or Mr. Peckham, track coach.

Boys and girls swimming will be starting after winter break. Please look for info about that in the next few weeks.

How important is attendance for student success?

The single most important factor for student achievement and graduation vs dropout rate is student attendance (Reid, 2006). The state of Indiana with the new ESSA Plan has defined a student with "model attendance" as missing no more than 7 days of school. Anything over 7 days is defined by the state as "chronic abseentism." We have challenged our students to do even better than that and set a goal of missing no more than 5 days of school this year.

We do understand that there are situations that arise where an absence can't be prevented. Please help communicate those reasons to the school by calling the main line at 532-6800 between 6:00-7:00 a.m. to report the absence.

Excused Absences Include:

1. Personal illness or injury (please drop off physician's notes to front desk)

2. Death in the immediate family

3. Attendance at a family funeral

4. Religious observances required by church officials

5. Serving as a page in the legislature

6. Court appearance/court detention

7. Working at polls

21st Century Scholars

The Indiana 21st Century Scholarship Program is an early commitment college promise program funded by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE), offering income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana two-year and/or four-year higher education institution.

P.E. Uniforms For Sale at the Bookstore

The bookstore will be open every morning before school and during P.E. classes next week for students who still need to purchase P.E. uniforms. The cost is $20 and includes a shirt, shorts, and CMS string bag.
