Notice to ALL using REMIND
The Remind app is a tool used by several OLMP teachers to keep communication open between parents and teachers. Several teachers choose to use the texting feature of the app, rather than the app itself. As you may be aware by now, the Rogers phone company and all of its subsidiaries (listed below) have decided to start charging for text messages sent using the Remind service. This change only affects those who use Remind by texting, and are also a part of the Rogers network. If you use the app itself, or are with another phone company, it will not affect you at all.
Due to this change, we are asking parents who are with Rogers to please download the Remind app, or enable the email notifications instead of texts. This will allow us to continue with our current method of communication.
The subsidiaries of Rogers are: Fido, Chatr, Cityfone, 7-Eleven Speak Out Wireless, Cansel Connect, good2go Mobile Canada, KORE Wireless, Petro-Canada Mobility, and Zoomer Wireless.
If you have any questions, please contact the school.

Book Recommendation
Book: Byzantium
Author: Stephen R. Lawhead
Recommended by: Mrs. Froehler
Book Description: Aidan is a young Irish monk who begins a journey that will change his life forever. He begins a pilgrimage to gift the Emperor of Byzantium a jeweled holy book, but is waylaid by Vikings, pirates, women, and kings. On his journey, he doubts himself, his calling, and his place in the world. Aidan is forced to face his destiny, and become the hero God calls him to be.
Why it is recommended: I love most books set in the past, especially during medieval times. Lawhead has written many adventure series set in medieval times that have a current of faith underlying the plot. I have enjoyed his books for over 20 years, including his books of King Arthur, Robin Hood, and a man's search for the cross of Christ. I have re-read this particular book many times as I love the adventures that this young monk experiences. He encounters dangerous people, has doubts of faith, yet stays true to his heart. He perseveres in extraordinary circumstances where most people would have given up many times over.
Modeling reading, reading with your children, and talking about the things they like to read are all ways to increase literacy and learning for our youth!
